Notice though that decline is steady, were are seeing the same percentage decrease each month. They will be able to calculate based upon that. I certainly dont believe there is anything to worry about. Its a short term drop in what is probably the leisure pax who use the route less. If things got that bad then i dont suppose it would be too much of a problem to shave off the fourth daily flight again. They are obviously committed though which is undeniably a good thing.

A FR base is indeed probably a non-starter. A MME-style operation is probably be the best that could be hoped for - if anything
I would also agree Jet 2 are the only real hope for anything major. In the mean time I guess we have to be happy with extended operating seasons for some Turkey flights

Veryconcerning - and KLM plan to increase the frequency next summer
Of course this has no relation to yield whatsoever. They know what they are doing, must be making them a profit for them to offer better frequencies next summer again!

CAA November Provisional Stats « Result #5 Today at 4:27pm »
I'll start with the good news. Compared to November 2008 the ATM's were up 14%
Passenger figures predictably slumped, down 32.3% compared to Nov 08. The los of four TCX B757's a week is responsible. I dread to think what April's figures will be when we have lost 5 TCX flights a week - thats 2000 pax in and out a week. Rolling year is 341509, down 19.7%. They year end figure will be below 400,000. Very sad to see
Some route figures
Aberdeen - 2802, down 9% Malta - 237 - or a rather disappointing 118.5 passengers on this Newmarket special departure Amsterdam - 9685, down 15%. Back below 10000, and still a big % decline despite the frequency reduction. Veryconcerning - and KLM plan to increase the frequency next summer Dalaman - 235
If FR would show interest then a base would probably be the only positive investment. I cannot however, see them basing an aircraft at HUY let alone having sufficient year round demand to prop one up.
I think at the moment, Jet2 are the only real hope and that doesnt seem likely for the next couple of years either. Funny how NWI are managing to expand the charter offering there though.
I agree that it will add to the losses, and its still debatable about how much expansion will happen due to it not being a full blown base. The committment is only realy half baked.

I do share some of the same concerns as pug. Having FR do ALC/AGP say 3xWeek each summer only could put off Jet 2 opening a base providing more flights, more destinations, including some all-year operations. Certainly I would expect destinations like Malaga to be the 'cornerstone' of any potential Jet 2 base
Though if Jet 2 never come here then talking to FR would do no harm. Assuming they made an overall positive effect to the bottom line then they would be better than nothing
I cannot see any reason why FR, or HUY management for that matter, would want FR type operations here.
Sorry to be pessimistic but, in contrast to Jet2, it would be reliant on filling flights without tour operator help. It could also put off any potentialy more lucrative charter operators from coming back.
My last posts was just whimsacle realy, i know they are working hard to get more flights though.
It would be great to see, dont get me wrong, but i just dont think it would do HUY any favours.
Its all really quite strange to mere mortals isn't it? Ryanair claim EMA is cheaper whilst easyJet are pulling out of the self-same base. Rumour has it that easyJet will be concentrating on even fewer bases than they presently operate with an increasing roll, maybe, for MAN. If this is so and FR concentrate at LBA would there be an opportunity for HUY to feature on some W workings?
With easyJet starting up at DSA, it really is time FR came back to HUY. With the latest 2 bases being Faro and Malaga, the scope for flights is much greater. FR should quit DSA, move to HUY and do Alicante, Barcelona GRO, Dublin, Faro and Malaga for a start! Cheaper at HUY too! Dublin can, and would succeed with a much reduced schedule, Monday, Friday and Sunday for example.

The prospects for a CAX-SEN scheduled service next year have receded considerably with the news that Carlisle farmer Mr Brown has been granted a Judicial Review of the planning consent by the Court of Appeal. I very much doubt that that will be concluded until autumn 2010.
I'm hardly surpised at that news. How they thought a move to Lydd was wise is quite beyond me and they're now, unfortunately, suffering the consequences.
One aircraft ( a day) even if full on all its W pattern flights, which is most unlikely, will not a summer make! The losses at DSA must be quite considerable by now and lets not forget its not just footfall that matters but profit .If rumours are to be believed easyJet have got a very, very good deal out of DSA...so its doubtful if the airport willl derive much profit other than a bit of kudos!
Well there certainly are a lot of retirees, but Southend is a big urban area with a lot of younger people, many of whom have to commute to work in London because of the town's economic decline. Much of the opposition is from prosperous NIMBYs living in Leigh-on-Sea. Assuming that the Tories get in at the next general election, that will be the end of SEN's runway extension plans........ so it's vital that the plans are not called in.
I've been hoping this wouldn't happen. It's what killed Southend United's plans for a new stadium - and nearly bankrupted the club. What is it about Southend that makes people want to block any developments which would bring prosperity to the town....?
