There are strong rumours that Stobart Air is recruiting 40 pilots for next Spring and that new routes from SEN will be announced soon, if this turns out to be true, i wonder if they have now taken up options on their ATR72-600s as they surely will need extra frames to operate any new routes.Stobart bosses were in talks with ATR at the Farnborough air show last month so we will have to wait and see.

From the world of Tweets, not the sort of passenger experience Stobart Air wants for its Dublin customers I'm sure:
"David Worsfold @davidworsfold 12h12 hours ago
Thanks to #aerlingus I am stuck in a traffic jam to Gatwick rather than getting ready to make a short train journey to @southendairport
Dean Carter @carter_Risk 11h11 hours ago
@davidworsfold Southend airport is a dream to fly from, as is Coventry. Gatwick is the worst of them all.

@carter_Risk I was looking forward to it but hopeless if airlines can't fill flights and cancel them at short notice @southendairport
David Worsfold @davidworsfold 11h10 hours ago
Having been bounced from @southendairport toGatwick the flight is now delayed @aerlingus are a shambles "

@aerlingus how long is the 9.25 to Dublin delayed. No info here :-(

Perhaps this thread should now be re-named 'Stobart Air'? Nice to see the return of Santa Flights out of Southend this year, with a couple on the departures board today. Well done to all for arranging them . How about EZY doing some to Finland next year, I'm sure there would be enough demand for a couple of flights at least.

Would be good if WAT could return especially since they have lost their Manchester route, and Birmingham has gone to seasonal. With DUB going to 1 daily from SEN in the S15 (operated by Flybe only), this means their is some spare flying time left on the Stobart ATRs. Also Stockholm-Arlanda recently got dropped from LCY.

I don't think the current daily DUB is necessarily the end of the story for next summer so Stobart may not have the availability that you suggest. Best to wait until the Stobart/Flybe timetable is released. I cannot see WAT being reintroduced unfortunately.

Shame for WAT as they really have suffered since Stobart Air (formerly Aer Arann) pulled out of there. Luckily we're not in that position. Reading some comments on the Flybe facebook page, many people asking when the schedules are going to be released and one response was simply "looks like that route is not continuing" because they obviously did a quick search on their website and saw it unavailable after 28th March without knowing that actually all the franchise routes have not been released from SEN.

Stobart Air are suspending ANR and MST routes from 18th Jan and removing one ATR72 from SEN. I wonder if these services will be back again in the Spring/Summer or will they replace them with any new routes?

The answer to both your questions is, unfortunately, no.
The Stobart Air S15 schedule which was put on sale this morning has been much reduced with just one aircraft being required.
The routes to FMO, GRQ and RNS will operate daily with CFR being 4 x weekly increasing to 6 x weekly for July and August. While that is very similar to S14 for CFR, FMO and GRQ, RNS must be disappointed to lose their day return capability as the route seemed to be building up quite nicely in recent months.

The Munster flight now cancelled today, presumably due knock-on weather related delays. I wonder if this would have still happened with 2 based ATR's, and a bit of slack in the programme?

I see that earlier today City Jet announced the closure of their routes from CWL to EDI and ORY as of June 30, citing Cardiff Airport's support for Flybe's new CWL operation which includes schedules to EDI and ORY. These routes are flown for City Jet by a Stobart Air ATR72.
I had thought that the arrangement between Stobart and City Jet was a simple ACMI deal but it seems there were press releases (in Cardiff at least) announcing a partnership between the two companies with Stobart proclaiming City Jet to be their third franchise partner after Aer Lingus and Flybe. Was it just me who missed the franchise announcement ?
I thought at the time it was an ominous sign as to Stobart Air's interest in expanding their SEN operation unless perhaps they are trying to establish some longer term relationship with City Jet. The question that now arises is what is to become of the ATR72 as of June 30.

I remember the franchise announcement but it wasn't exactly well promoted. Good question about the spare ATR72. They could quite easily put it at SEN, but who knows. EDI, BHD/BFS, GLA, CDG/ORY and DUB are on their wish list of routes that have (with the exception of GLA, or CDG/ORY) a proven demand. DUB carried over 61,000 last year, and BFS over 90,000 in 2013. They could also do with reintroducing the 2nd daily RNS rotation (which would come under the Flybe franchise).
Of course at the end of the day it all depends on the pricing structure and choosing the franchise partner. I don't know how much of a say the partner would have on launching new services from SEN, but I can't see Flybe relaunching DUB, and CityJet have operations at LCY to protect. Saying that I'm sure rumours had been circulating some time ago (probably years) about the possibility of SEN luring CityJet from LCY particularly during their financial predicament and restructuring.
Also EI-REM will return at some point from heavy maintenance at Monchengladbach near Dusseldorf.
