Roche, The last I heard was that the SEN to GWY and WAT routes would start to be advertised early in January so we shall soon see whether or not they will be transferred from LTN at the end of March.
There was never any prospect of there being based RE aircraft at SEN until June 2011 as they simply will not have enough aircraft to do so. If some Irish PSO routes end at around that time, as seems likely, that would release two aircraft for that purpose. Perhaps RE feel that the upgrading of the runway and ILS, prior to the extension being commenced, may cause too much disruption and would like to delay the transfer of the LTN routes until June when weather conditions will be less likely to cause diversions. That would make some sense and I don't see it as being a major setback if that is what they choose to do, although the PPRuNe story did say it was heard 'on the grapevine' so may not have much validity.

On reading the CAX planning documents, the thing I find most interesting (and surprising) is the fact that no less than eleven aircraft stands are to be provided adjacent to the new 'Airfreight Distribution Centre'. Stobart must be thinking they can make CAX an important airfreight hub, as the pax terminal and apron are on the opposite side of the airfield.
As far as the RE CAX-SEN scheduled service is concerned it will obviously be some time before the planning application is approved and the necessary runway and navaid improvements have been completed, so the route would not commence until around Spring 2012 I would guess.

The shifts given in the planning docs. are for 0400-2300, and the car journeys expected would seem to point to the expectation of an early morning flight out, and a late evening flight back in. Presumably to allow a full day's work in London after catching the train in from Southend. Good luck to them with the planning.

It seems there is to be a press release by Aer Arann on it's plans for SEN on the 26/27th Jan.

Early this afternoon SEN to WAT & GWY became bookable on the RE website w.e.f. Sunday 27 March 2011. Two rotations daily by the look of it. A lovely sight to see!

Are GWY/WAT having separate flights, or are there some GWY-WAT-SEN rotations planned?

Just a few of the GWY services will route via WAT, one service on each of about three days of the week I think.

Great news, it's just the beginning, and not only from Aer Arann. Who knows, perhaps the future's Orange!

Very good news for SEN, however I think Stobart's and Aer Arann are going to have to work very hard to make these routes work - still, I assume they've done some market research and the introduction of these services is not just payback for Stobart's investment in the airline last year.

Heard Aer Arrans first radio ads this morning on Southend Radio. Don't know if they are also on Heart (Essex).
