RE seem quite happy with bookings on WAT & GWY and there doesn't seem to be much resistance to the change from LTN to SEN from the majority of their existing passengers.
It's also still looking good for additional routes to be launched in the summer.

Less than two weeks to go before RE commence services from SEN and still no opening date for the station and today Hertz cannot confirm if or when they will have a desk at SEN. Just how is it that we are so close to this major step forward in SEN's fortunes and yet the lack of infrastructure could result in inbound Irish passengers wondering just what sort of airport they have landed at?
RE's enthusiasm for SEN is genuine and they see it as offering great expansion opportunities for them from this summer onwards. They are looking at a number of inbound routes to SEN from the Continent with the ablity to get from aircraft to station platform in 10 minutes with hand baggage being a major attraction.

They may be unlucky this morning, SEN has thick fog and no ILS!

Hertz have confirmed that wef 27 March 2011 they will have a rental desk at SEN, so at least that's one problem resolved.
I haven't heard any more about an opening date for the station.

Aer Arann's first two scheduled services began at SEN this morning, all seemed OK and let's hope the first of many.

Now the SEN website must incorporate the Aer Arann timetable and 'live' flight status if it is to be taken seriously.

Yes, SEN do need to get an arrivals/departure page on their website.
I flew on the inaugural SEN-WAT service and enjoyed a few days in Ireland - it's certainly worth a visit if you haven't been before. The cabin crew hand out a leaflet advising that the SEN train station is not yet open as it's "awaiting final government approval" and both shuttle buses were in use when we arrived back. All very fine, but the lack of the station makes the claim "50 minutes from Southend airport to London" sound rather hollow. The continued lack of ILS doesn't seem to have resulted in any diversions yet, but it's only a matter of time unless they're very fortunate.
Aer Arann's plans for new routes out of SEN for later this summer should become apparent within the next month or so.
