With the demise of SEN-FMO at the end of next month there are gains for both GRQ and RNS. SEN-GRQ gains a second daily rotation on Tuesdays and Thursdays with RNS gaining a second flight on Wednesdays and Fridays. SEN-CFR also gains a Wednesday flight departing at 10:55 and the existing Friday and Sunday flights depart at 10:55 and 11:25 respectively. These new timings are much better for travellers getting to SEN by train; especially on Sundays.

Both Stobart Flybe-liveried ATR72s EI-REL & 'REM have commenced their IOM Flybe leases and the SEN Stobart/Flybe routes are being operated by Lithuanian ATR72-200 LY-MCA today. It's anticipated that a Stobart ATR42 may operate the SEN winter timetable in due course.

Seems strange the Groningen dep (due 1445, arrival back due at 1750) was cancelled, when the delayed Munster arrived back at 1855. Surely a Groningen could have been fitted in after this with the weather cleared sufficiently - instead it has taken off (1948) positioning back presumably to Dublin. Perhaps not enough crew hours to fit it in, in which case shows the folly of not having many/any? SEN based ATR-72 crews to call upon in these circumstances.

Or.... It could be to do with the fact that Gronigen is reporting 350m in fog with an RVR of 450M, and nothing to do with a shortage of crews at all :-)

I understand that the FMO-SEN pax were advised prior to boarding that there was a good chance that the aircraft would not be able to land at SEN and that CWL(!) looked to be the nearest assured diversion airport. Some pax apparently didn't board in light of that information. It was only an unexpected and sudden improvement in the SEN wx that allowed it to land at SEN. With that background Flybe/Stobart would not have had much expectation of being able to operate SEN-GRQ yesterday evening, regardless of the GRQ wx.

Re the Groningen, not sure if this relates to an earlier Groningen flight, or the later cancelled one:
Pauliena @peepeejeedee twitted these 5 twits 20hours ago on the subject:
@southendairport @flybe cancelled flight BE6036 to Groningen was changed into flight BE6030 to Münster(!!!). 200 km from Groningen… 1/5
the passengers of new flight BE6030 to Münster were promised a bus to Groningen. No bus showed up&no Flybe help! 2/5
what happened to our promised bus? Now we had to arrange a very expensive taxi to our destination Groningen... 3/5
we need answers! After 29hrs & unfulfilled obligations its unacceptable to be dumped 200km from our destination! 4/5 passengers of cancelled flight BE6036 waited many hours without any food/drinks being offered & hardly any info. 5/5
Sounds like a difficult day all round!

Difficult to know when exactly that took place but I'm surprised the airport at GRQ didn't offer any assistance as I know them well and it's a very small team there. Certainly a totally unacceptable way to treat your customers.

With Flybe offering LCY-Rennes for next summer, the relationship between Stobart Air/SEN and Flybe continues to appear somewhat skewed. Hope this isn't the start of handing a successful Southend route to Flybe to operate from a competitor airport. (cf: Dublin route) Flybe also doing LCY-CDG in direct competition with the new EZY SEN-CDG route.
Bearing in mind the Rennes have only just gone on sale at both, the lowest prices available are: LCY: £56.24 out, £ 27.74 back SEN: £37.16 out, £22.81 back The disparity could be taken either way as a reflection of the airline operating costs at each airport, or the relative popularity to the passenger. Of course Southend offers more capacity on the route, so that would keep the prices lower too.

SEN-RNS is double daily excluding Tuesdays and Saturdays for S16. LCY-RNS will only operate in the School holidays from July 18 to September 4th and only once daily Mon-Fri i believe.

All in all the S2016 Stobart/Flybe timetable for SEN is reasonably good with CFR 5 x weekly, GRQ 8 x weekly and RNS 12 x weekly. That fully commits the ATR-42 except for Tuesday evening and Saturday afternoon/evening so it's doubtful if any additional routes could be effectively accommodated.

Saturday afternoons could be useful for a once weekly flight to another French regional airport, if Stobart were interested? Either somewhere with no or few London flights such as Agen, Clermont Ferrand or St Etienne, or a busier route such as Bergerac or La Rochelle that can sustain multiple options from London
