The fate of Brough as an airfield will be decided tomorrow. A consortium of developers including BAeSystems have submitted a planning application to build the next phase of development which is to include land south of the railway line. A closer look at the plans shows that the runway will form part of the link road, with the land north of the runway destined to be a retail park of sorts.
This will mean the end of a proper airfield on the north bank, despite slightly rejouvinated use of the runway in recent years. Unfortunately i think the factory will follow shortly after it too.

Unless BAE Systems can diversify into civil aircraft on a larger scale, it would seem Brough is doomed long term - all eggs in one basket with the Hawk. Its a pity they can't get more work from Airbus who have just had a massive order in excess of 100 aircraft from IndiGo.

Im told that Brough will be more involved in componants in the future rather than full aircraft production, also continuing work on the F-35.
As for the runway, well its fate has been sealed with planning consent being given yesterday to the road bridge over the railway line. The runway will be part of a link road.
