Not many early morning departures there if they're basing aircraft at southend. alot of these routes might be from planes at other bases. There seem to be 4 departures between 16.00 and 17.00 every day, so must be at least 4 planes.

Great to see this coming together. I'm a bit surprised at the Amsterdam departure time though; I'd have thought that many people would want to fly to Amsterdam in order to transit through to long haul departures, so an early morning flight from SEN would be useful. Maybe that will come as traffic builds up.
As SERKO says, the departure times seem to demand at least four aircraft.....

AMS is twice daily. First departure leaves SEN at 7:30 am

Yep, thanks; just spotted that on the Easyjet website. That makes much more sense.

I'd expect another shortish route like Edinburgh or Glasgow to fill an early morning gap, with probably another trip in the evening. Though this may have to be with a non-SEN based aircraft looking at the timings
If there are 4 based aircraft then there must be quite a bit more to come. However move a late afternoon flight to mid-morning then the schedule would work out with 3 aircraft
And intrigued about Malaga being 6xWeek. A 1xWeek flight planned for somewhere, or maintenance downtime for an aircraft?
All in all a very safe selection of routes - which seems very wise as SEN gets established as a major passenger airport once again

Now there appears to be no early morning gap I would be surprised to see a Edinburgh or Glasgow. Can't see that working as a once daily middle of the day service
I'm thinking somewhere like Inverness, Jersey or Nantes - somewhere close by but that doesn't need a day return option to be successful

Don't the Sun realise that Southend Airport will be the plush Essex Rival when the new terminal opens.

I saw the letter below on the Evening Echo website. I checked out the chap's point and discovered that he is right. Not just Palma either. Seems a shame - is it linked to the relative popularity of the routes since SEN is getting a lot of bookings apparently. Or do EZY charge different rates based on economies of scale at their various bases? Or what? Certainly seems unfortunate....
"As a regular visitor to Majorca, I was looking forward to having the chance to fly from my local airport.
Imagine my disappointment then when I went online to book, only to find I can still fly from Luton or Stansted for half the price I can fly from Southend.
How can this be right?
Surely easyJet want to grow this part of the business as quickly as possible. Why are the charges from Southend that much higher than the other airports? "

Don't they sell the flights in blocks, Cheap flights go on sale first then the tickets get more expensive. If you had bought tickets on Tuesday then you could have got them for around £50 return (without baggage). As the demand was very high (due to the hype and buzz) the cheaper tickets have probably sold quicker than usual, whilst cheaper tickets are still available for Luton and Stansted.

Yes, I hope that's the reason. I've looked at several different flights on several different days and months and the pattern is the same though. If your explanation is correct jon then that would be excellent news indeed.

I'm sure jon's explanation is correct. It's simply a matter of the demand for the SEN routes, especially in the first month or two of operation, being much greater in the past six days than for similar routes from LTN and STN. In the long term that has to be good news, although some people will obviously be disappointed in the short term.
