With events seemingly moving forward in the last 24hrs with regards to a disposal by Lufthansa of bmi, what does the future hold for Regional, in terms of jobs, equipment, routes & of course their Aberdeen HQ?
Does it have a future, & who possibly would be interested in it? Anyone domestically, or could interest come from abroad?

I'd have thought regional would have some value. Eastern stands out as the most logical suitor - most of bmi regional's routes would probably be too niche and low volume for Flybe. Fleet wise now Eastern have Embraers again there is fleet compatability with bmi regional. Plus the Airbus contract is just the sort of work Eastern like
If not Eastern, then maybe Loganair?
The Aberdeen HQ would be vulnerable though, unless there was a management buy-out or non-trade investor
Route wise I wonder if Lufthansa would transfer EDI/EMA/LBA-BRU to Brussels Airlines and EMA-FRA to Lufthansa Regional (and possibly EDI-ZRH to Swiss) before selling bmi regional. I can't see them wanting to loose those routes

Also the story mentions the CEO of bmi stating that they would look to launch links to London airports OTHER than LHR. That tells me goodbye BD to LHR & maybe a new link to STN with...Business Air...??

Certainly seems the best outcome for Aberdeen
As far as London links go though, if the fleet remains ERJ-135/145's then I can't see an independent bmi regional being able to compete on LGW or LTN up against Flybe/Easyjet. I think they would have to go for an unserved London airport - STN, LCY or SEN

Project GRANITE continues...due diligence ongoing apparently, with hopefully more news at the end of the year.
Wonder if they'll retain the Embraers long terms, or look to introduce another type, either to augment or replace the fleet?
My guess, with investment proving difficult to secure in these tough times, is that the Embraers will soldier on.

Rumour on PPRUNE that the purchase by GRANITE of bmi Regional is a done deal. The guys that posted I think know what's going on, or have a fair idea.

I can see the ERJ's having a niche role for charters/high yielding routes. If they are leased they can probably get a good deal on them when the leases are renewed since they are hardly in high demand. However for routes like MAN-EDI up against Flybe and the train then I'm not sure they are the most competitive aircraft
