Jet2.com backing new airport to commence November 2012
Senior members of staff from the North's leading leisure airline, Jet2.com, met with the Murcia regional Government and visited the brand new Regional Murcia International Airport – situated approximately 19 kilometres from Murcia City and 28 kilometres from the Costa Calida coast.
Jet2.com is keen to ensure a continuity of flights to the region for its customers when San Javier Airport is expected to close its doors to passenger operations in 2012. Jet2.com urged the regional Government and the new airport team to ensure minimum passenger disruption by delaying the airport switchover until after the summer season, in November – thus enabling customers to make their travel plans for next year.
The airline has expanded its services to San Javier since 2004, to provide its loyal customers, including many homeowners in the region, the best possible service from 7 UK airports. The Murcia flights complement Jet2.com's popular Alicante flights, which the airline operates frequently from each of its 8 UK bases.
In addition the company has developed its Jet2holidays offering to the region - which is leading the way in offering inclusive holiday packages to the Costa Calida.
In order to continue to provide the best possible customer service, Jet2.com's 50 plus staff at San Javier will be transferred to the new airport when it opens next year, to ensure the same seamless, friendly service passengers have come to expect.
The regional government officials have promised to provide the best possible facilities so passengers can still enjoy a very fast transit through the new airport, so they can fully maximise their time in the sunshine. During the visit Jet2.com was also shown the new car hire facilities and brand new road links to the A30 motorway network, providing a swift transfer to the key holiday resorts in the region.
Ian Doubtfire, Managing Director of Jet2.com, commented: "We are very impressed with the user friendly airport facilities that have been built in Corvera and think it will be a very efficient airport when operational. The regional government has promised to keep us updated on the continuing discussions with AENA and have ensured that there are no disruptions to any of Jet2.com's scheduled flights to this important region - meaning passengers can look forward to their holiday.
"In the meantime we anticipate our full operation to continue at San Javier and will ensure that there is a seamless transfer at the end of 2012."
