Dear Richard,
Good evening, I would be happy to provide a response based on what I know at this time in the day, I may need to gather clarification tomorrow. At the moment we are going through the appropriate application process which will mean we can make our slot applications. This is not something that happens overnight. The core issue here is that we unexpectedly have everyone with their keen eyes on us - the press coverage spread like an uncontrollable rash. But these processes are ongoing and have been for some months. That is about all I would be able to say at this time in the day.
Regarding the base airport having 'heard of us and our intentions' - they are well aware. Discussions with Rotterdam The Hague Airport began in early January this year and the actual planning behind this start-up began a number of months before that. There are some of the operational airports that would not yet be aware of our plans to operate a route to them solely because of the fact that the route list on our landing page also includes prospective routes. (Hence that page is taken down at the moment for an update to make things clearer).
What I must stress is a few misconceptions regarding matters:
1) Just because a design preview on an agencies website shows fares at 29 Euro and mock departures doesn't make them factual - they are there to make the point as to what will actually be in its place when the site goes live.
2) We are NOT going to be operating all of our routes from day one. Initially, two routes will be launched from September 17th. A further four from January 2013 and the final routes on our prospective list from April 2013.
3) No this is not a 'con'. It is very easy for Individual A who has some involvement with the industry to sit behind their desk saying "Oh, it's a start-up using small props, it's bound to fail". This is really not the case. It's a matter of jabbing at plans just because you can in the modern day and age of the Internet. Small props are being used for a very good reason. We could quite easily elect to continue with solely Fokker 50 aircraft, we have a very good developing relationship to bring this aircraft type in to operation. But ultimately, this would result in one rotation to e.g. Humberside some days and no flights on others. These 'slimmer' routes are far better served by smaller props like the Jetstream. This way we can bring you 1, 2 or even 3 rotations on some days - providing better convenience for travelers and a higher rate of bookings.
There are concerns for any start-up on many aviation forums. But an important point to make is that those forums are also to be read by prospective passengers of said start-ups. These people are actually setting the start-ups to fail by providing the negative feedback from the off. That's my task here, to respond directly to these points of concern. I welcome anyone to send an e-mail to letsgo @ europortexpress.com - more information will also become available on the website in due course.
