Theres been a lot of speculating, rumours, and I believe bucket loads of wishful thinking about where a next base might be.
Someone posted elsewhere that they understand an announcement is 'imminent' at LPL, with others being convinced something is due to be announced at DSA.

One of these days, the ongoing healthy growth at ABZ might see a Jet2 arrive at the airport. The airline has said ABZ might be worthy of consideration. As one of the few airports still growing, can loco airlines ignore it for much longer? Or does location v. costs of flying there prove a disincentive for the main UK Locos?

My bet would be on Liverpool been the next Jet2 base. I don't think they will be looking at Doncaster-Sheffield. As things stand only 2x Boeing 737-300's still need to be allocated a base. The Boeing 737-800's and Boeing 757-200's have all been allocated bases but that could change it more aircraft are added to the fleet as they have done over recent years.
1x Boeing 737-300 is currently Leeds/Bradford based but its been swapped by adding the extra 4th based Boeing 757 aircraft that's recently been added to the fleet. The 2nd unit will be a Blackpool based aircraft either G-CELK or G-CELJ, As one of either 2 will be replaced by the latest Boeing 737-300WL, G-GDFL for next summer as far as I understand.

One of the people convinced of an 'imminent announcement' due for Liverpool has not said that the airline has pulled away..

Well just found out that the leased Boeing 757-200's, G-LSAL & G-LSAM are returning back to America for use by Allegiant at the end of this summer 2012 season. Thus leaving jet2 short of 2x aircraft for next summer.
That may have just effected there decision regarding opening yet another new base at the moment. As surely the 2x spare B737-300 will now have to be dispatched as replacements units unless more aircraft are acquired over the winter season

Surely the relevent departments will have known in advance of any uture capacity issues, and if they were committed to a new base they would source sufficient numbers to make it happen?
It often seems the case that, whilst the airlines may agree terms with an airport, nothing is set in stone until such time as there is a formal announcement by the airline concerned.

No new bases are going to be open next year by Jet2. It's going to be a year off consolidation instead after the problems they have had with the current fleet this past 2 summers.

According to a poster on Pprune, confirmed no new base next year. Liverpool was planned with a based 757 however with growth at MAN by FR et al they have shelved that plan, and dont see room for any new bases in the North.
Plan is for an expanded fleet of 50 and a new base in 2014. The new base is said to be 'a conveniant diversion airport for EMA'. BHX or CVT appear most likely IMO. Of course that is a long term plan and things can change.

I wouldn't rule out DSA or HUY as being the airport to have a based aircraft. BHX and the others are already well served with low cost carriers. Whilst being on the edge of the catchments for LBA and EMA, both airports could offer a good opportunity to reach an East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire market that isn't well served at the moment.

Im personally in no position to rule anything out, however it seems that neither HUY or DSA are on the radar. Except for Thomson, there isn't really anybody to compete with in this part of the country, and they can expect passengers to use Jet2 at EMA, LBA and MAN without going to the cost of setting up a base at DSA or HUY.
They are trying to distance themselves from the low-cost sector in favour of focusing on Jet2holidays, and I think low-cost in the West Midlands is actually quite small relative to the market.
Hopefully Jet2 are one of the airlines the team at HUY are in talks with, but I'd like to think there are far more avenues to go down.

Personally I think Jet2's next base will most likely be in the midlands and as has been said elsewhere, If what I have was told is true then a new base a BHX will be a good diversion airport for EMA crews. I honestly think you can rule out Jet2 setting up a base at either DSA & HUY at the minute. But that's not to say that the likes of LPL, DSA, HUY & CVT are off Jet2holidays radar doing w-legs from the main bases to the popular summer holiday hot spots.....

Hopefully they will decide to gp in that direction in future, as they are moving out of low-cost and much more into package holidays, for which there is demand at both HUY and DSA.
