I wonder if they will get the land for a quid? ;D
I dont see HS2 happening. Despite it being a Labour idea, it will be used as a political pawn at the next election much like the 3rd runway at LHR was.

The proposed route actually skirts both the runway and the taxiway as well as most of the hard standing. It's the cutting that will take space. As a result, the terminal ( which now houses commercial offices) would lose it's cafe...but, by the time the line was built, the building would have become life-expired anyway.
The problem is the cutting that the proposed line would need. As this would be cut through some compacted, previously open-cast land, it may well not be sufficiently stable to support the cutting in any case and a tunnel might be needed.
The plans are a proposal...nothing is set in stone.
What is interesting is the proposal to have the line running in a tunnel straight through EMA...Now that's worth discussion...not the potential loss of a small piece of land at SCA.....which will make no difference at all if Peel choose not to sell!

Target reached. SCC will, hopefully, now have to reopen the debate on its closure!

Its all gone quiet, have the proposed interested parties approached the holding company to see if they will sell?

I am led to believe that the "consortium" are in conversations with the site owners ( a joint company between Peel and Tinsley Park)

The petition calling for a halt to any further redevelopment until a "truly" independent assessment is made as to its possible viability, in new hands, will be discussed at a full meeting of Sheffield City Council on Wednesday afternoon 3rd April.

It would seem the Council is unwilling to change its already stated position...but might support a private initiative. One Councillor even made a claim of consideration being given to have DSA's name changed to "Sheffield"...That would cause a stir!

A name change doesn't sound so far fetched when it appears that there is competition for funding for the link road between Parrots Corner and the airport, with other investment proposals in South Yorkshire...

The airport's owners ( Sheffield Business Park(phase2) Ltd) who acquired the site for the rather infamous £1.00, unsurprisingly, are unwilling to enter into any meaningful negotiations to sell to private investors.

Having received a Government loan of £1.8 million the owners have announced that the runway will be demolished by the end of this year!
