Heard 'Coastguard 02' on the radio to ATC this morning. When it appeared out of the cloud (cloud base was 500ft) it was a Cessna 440! Don't know how that fits in with things.

A second Bristow S-92 G-MCGH 'Coastguard Golf Hotel' arrived this evening at 18:22 to SAR ramp.

Thanks Richie. I wondered when the second A/C would arrive. GE has been busy practicing over the last couple of weeks. On another note looks like we will be losing Police 19 next year. Police to cut 10 helicopter bases

A good thing in my view as they will then have to pay to watch Hull City's games instead of hovering over the stadium for half the game at ratepayer's expense.

When does Bristow take over operations from Leconfield? Has it happened? Heard the two a/c using callsigns Coastguard 911 and 912 today.

For completeness the two callsigns of the Humberside based S92's are Coastguard 912 and 913 with the usual prefix of Rescue when on a mission. Leconfield now NOTAM'd closed with no facilities for helicopters any more.

Thanks 350. I was incorrect when I first mentionned the 911/912 callsigns. Does anyone know what frequencies they are using - particularly to call in to their HUY base? They check in with Humber Coastguard on Channel 0 just after t/o but that's the only comms I've been able to here.

Small postscript to this thread. Heard faint transmission from helicopter this morning (probably low altitude) talking to radar about lifting out of Leconfield bound for Culdrose. End of an era!

Thanks pug. I've been away for a few days so not been aware of - that although I did see a notam covering a large part of Yorkshire which mentionned formations of helicopters - but didn't join the dots.

Good news about 2Excel moving some of their operations to HUY. Just looking online it seems that the new contract awarded to Bristow and 2Excel from 2024 includes less S-92s than present and new AW139s - so there may well be some changes at HUY. www.2excelaviation.com/2excel-sar2g-award/
