Thank you for pointing this out. It also shows a video of the first arrival on Wednesday. The passenger numbers will be followed with interest. Roughly 20 on Wednesday : 35 booked to fly out on Sunday. Let us hope that the numbers double in four months as the Paris route did a few years ago.

35 seats out of 50 is very strong for a new route - 70% load factor. Obviously lower loads, such as the 20 will balance this out, but even 40% load in the first week of operation for this type of route is pretty good going really. If the 35 loads become a regular thing - I have no doubt the route will be successful!

Could the number of check-in desks in use give a rough load indication? The Sunday flight yesterday employed three desks, which looks very promising. This evening's flight required two. For comparison, the early evening AMS flight today used three and the ABZ only needed one.

The SAS flight has utilised three check-in desks on each of the last three departures (Wednesday, Thursday and Friday).

The Monday departure this evening utilised three check-in desks for the first time since the route was instigated.

I would be tempted to not read too much into the number of desks open, as I would imagine even if the flight was full, 2 desks would be more than adequate - sounds like they have 3 check in staff in work, and might as well use them for Copenhagen - particularly if staff are contracted to say 40 hours per week and struggle to make those hours up during the quieter winter months. Copenhagen check in would open shortly after the 5.10 AMS and 5.35 ABZ check in closes, so it would make sense, as the staff would already be on site.
Would be interested in getting some more definitive data on how the flights are performing load-wise. The flights seem much more reliable now, after a few cancellations in the initial week.

The Copenhagen return fares from Humberside are looking more attractive now with good availability from £178. This compares with the cheapest SAS offers from Leeds/Bradford of £277, Manchester £146 and Heathrow £114. The booking system seems quite sensitive to demand, as I found that the price went up by £20 when requesting 2 seats for a recent booking.

A recent look at a sample of SAS fares shows that there may have been a change in their pricing policy. Copenhagen fares are now much more expensive to reflect the fact that the flights are direct. Other destinations are cheaper and are very competitive compared with KLM. The following return fares were quoted today for departure from HUY on 30th or 31st March, returning on 3rd April. Copenhagen SAS £354 KLM £237 Stockholm SAS £263 KLM £377 Oslo SAS £268 KLM £339 Gothenburg SAS £261 KLM £352 Frankfurt SAS £239 KLM £390 All the above fares relate to flights with short connecting times giving an overall duration of about 4 hours. As the KLM services from Humberside have been performing very well over the past few months, could this be a belated attempt by SAS to take some of the business?

Appears flights to be dropped after April 7th. No real surprises given the poor loads.

Not surprising if that is the case. Before Christmas it worked out cheaper for me to drive to Manchester, fly with easyjet and get some of the hotel charges paid then flying from humberside with SAS. It is a shame though, I wanted to use the local service but just too expensive.

I presume just a case of not fully updating schedules, but flights remain on sale from October 26th onwards

Some 'bigger picture' perspective. In January HUY handled 2306 extra passengers compared to Jan 2013. CPH accounted for just 335
Not saying it's not disappointing, because it is, and it might make it harder to attract new services in the future, but the impact on passenger figures will be fairly small

I have had two telephone conversations with SAS today. The Humberside - Copenhagen service has been suspended between 6th April and 26th October (when it becomes bookable again). Passengers affected by the cancellations are offered a full refund or a re-booking on an alternative SAS route. This might explain why there has been no (low profile) press-release on the subject.

Better than an outright cancellation if true. Looking at the booking system, it is still going up to 6 days per week as planned at the end of the month. Clearly, if that is the plan, then they still see merit in the route long term. Many of the new green energy businesses that are expected to use the route are still being established. Only in the last few days Siemens have announced a new factory in Hull for wind turbines for instance. Fingers crossed the flights return in October.

Hopefully I'm being unduly negative, but is the person at SAS just looking at a not fully updated booking engine that still has October flights onwards loaded, or do they know for sure that the intention is to resume the route in October?
