Thats Alicante gone then
TFS and ACE, I would hope, continue without Thomson, though it could mean a downgrade from a B757 to a A320

Interesting but useless fact. The HUY-TFS flight is the only one in the First Choice brochure I got yesterday not operated by TOM

Gran Canaria will operate in November with three departures on 7th, 14th and 21st. Wonder how well such a short series will do. Its not uncommon for November departures like this, but they are usually attached to a summer programme (as with FUE last year). At least the FUE flight has been replaced
Considering LPA's good loads, I wonder why TCX dont consider operating it all winter, or at least adding a departure or two around Christmas/New Year
No mention of LCA/DLM in the winter brochures for Airtours and Thomas Cook I picked up today, from any UK airport, but performing a search on the airtours website only gave me flights from NCL to LCA in April 2010. Hopefully LCA/DLM will be added at a later date

Thomas Cook appear to have pulled out of HUY from Next Season. None of their flights are available on the booking systems. A shame because they always seem to be popular. Is it temporary or will another operator take over ??

Probably going to DSA... Its all about critical mass and competition. If they dont think HUY will allow competition etc they probably dont bother expanding. If we lose TCX we lose the charter market pretty much.
If a lo-co came in i bet we would see a number of charter routes come in an prosper too....

I emailed the airport travel agency about this. They say there will be no Canaries from HUY this winter
Sad, very sad
While it says nothing about yield, TCX were filling B757's week in week out. There is clearly demand. And then TCX pull the whole programme - not just one destination, but three. Yet they are adding capacity elsewhere next winter
I suspect there maybe some commercial issues here between HUY and Thomas Cook. HUY seems to be the only airport affected, and there is clearly demand for the Canaries, and there are many passengers who would far rather fly from HUY, to the extent they may not even not fly from other airports instead (and thats Tony Lavan saying that, not me). Something does not add up here
However that does not alter the fact this is a total disaster for HUY. Next winter the only regular charter we have is Innsbruck, and that doesnt even operate all winter. And the largest aircraft to visit on a regular basis will be a Fokker 70

Perhaps its just not cost effective to part base the aircraft at HUY when it could do a full programme from somewhere else?
This is certainly very worrying and i just hope the airport are realising that they cannot be competative without a lo-co. Whether they will even want to attract one remains to be seen but certainly very dissapointing particularly as the aircraft tend to go out full.

Perhaps its just not cost effective to part base the aircraft at HUY when it could do a full programme from somewhere else? That could be part of the issue, but even still couldn't one weekly flight be done on a w pattern, or with a Spanish airline. Costs more, but out of the 600+ passengers a week TCX were carrying, surely at least 180 of them would pay a bit more to cover the extra costs?

Im not so sure it works like that. As ive posted already about the loss of the summer routes, the expense the pax would incur due to the increased cost of using Air Europa etc would not be viable. These companies (i assume) will not want to charge excessive ammounts compared to their other operations. They all want to keep costs down.
This could be very damaging long term. It could be likely that there will be very little next summer too, unless another operator comes in to replace these. Once pax realise they cant go from HUY anymore they will lose their confidence and just not bother looking at flying from HUY anymore.
This realy is the time to be offering very good deals to lo-co's or that will be it for HUY's pax routes i fear.
