An Atlantic Airways RJ-100 operated a charter this morning into SEN from Copeghagen bringing in attendees for a conference in London (?). It's due to fly them back home on Sunday apparently.

Whilst right now attention understandably is focused on Stobart Air and Flybe,it is possible that events at Manston could result in a small windfall for SEN. Although closure of MSE may not be finally signed and sealed, the chances of any viable rescue takeover are surely diminished now that Saudia Cargo and KLM have already announced the end of their MSE operations.
The major cargo operators cannot use SEN and realistically we might discount KLM. What is left ? (1) Apparently the Austrian airline Intersky has a weekly Bern ATR72 operation planned for next winter, presumably in conjnuction with a UK ski holiday operator. (2) Newmarket Holidays has occasional charters in summer, though it has to be said Newmarket’s original enthusiasm for SEN seems to have evaporated. (3) There are occasional light cargo charters that might be operable from SEN, always provided there is no objection to An12s (4) Bristow Helicopters have a base planned for a SAR contract though there could be issues of siting and compatibility at SEN .
In summary, not much to go for but still some possibilities. Lets hope SEN management is aware and able to seize any opportunity that might arise.

A fairly specific comment on the SEN Facebook page today:
Jersey will be become a seasonal summer route again. We are currently talking to different airlines about new routes including the return of the Edinburgh and Belfast.

As a follow up to my post above it occurs to me that the airport's Facebook comments do not identify the airline that will operate the seasonal JER service from next year. Do we know for sure if it is easyJet, or could it be Flybe and/or Stobart Air ? The "we are talking to different airlines about new routes" response is one that has appeared regularly over the last two years with little to show for it. One imagines that SEN would be especially keen to see the return of EDI and BHD/BFS. In that respect City Jet appears to have surplus F50 capacity that they need to utilise. So far they have to chosen to deploy those aircraft on CWL and CBG routes which would appear to offer rather less potential than new SEN routes. Is there an opportunity being missed here ? A final comment concerns this news item which claims SEN is forecasting 2million ppa by 2015, meaning presumably the end of 2015. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-essex-26929823I find it hard to see how this figure can be achieved in that time frame. It would need the equivalent of two more A319s or several additional ATR72s to get there so quickly. I asked the question on pprune whether the report is mistaken but there was no response from anyone. I have not seen it published elsewhere and there seems to be no attribution to SEN management. I note the comments from SAEN at the end and wonder if they have misunderstood the figures and have created the story to wind people up. Not for the first time of course. But then is there something else in prospect for 2015 ?

Someone has stated that there is a rumour going round about an announcement in the coming weeks. As per usual we'll wait and see if it is airline related, but if Roger Clements talks the talk and walks the walk we should have reason to feel optimistic. At the World Routes Event in Chiacago he said "...yes we have plans for new routes for the remainder of this year and into next year" [refers to new Bern service with Skywork] and later goes on to say "We have enjoyed a very successful relationship with EasyJet and I'm absolutely sure that will continue in the years to come".

I don't really see anything that Roger Clements said there as being any more than the usual talking-up of any airline discussions which may have been taking place. I wouldn't say it strengthens the current rumour in any way.
