Balance sheets and company acounts are not my forte: www.lse.co.uk/rns/STOB/acquisition-of-stobart-air-and-propius-fjsw4hd43rcw1di.htmlAnyone say whether they think this is overall good, or bad for Stobart Group? I think a lot will depend on the future relationship, post-covid, with Aer Lingus and how quickly services are able to be (unrestrictedly) re-started in a meaningful way. I guess with no other way of selling Stobart Air flights other than through EI, that re-start of SEN continental routes won't happen any time soon. if at all.

I suppose whether it's a good or bad idea to bring Stobart Air and Propius back into Stobart Group ownership will take some time to unfold. However, as a considerable contingent liability will be there for a long time it may be better to have that risk within the Group's control (as far as that is possible) rather than simply having the liability but with no control on ways of handling it.
The chances of getting the Aer Lingus contract renewed have probably improved as a result of this crisis on the "better the devil you know than one you don't" principle and certainly re-acquiring the airline and its fleet probably helps that aim. Exactly what will be left of the European commercial airline industry when (I'll be optimistic and not say "if") some sort of normality returns is an even bigger question of course.

I like the positivity of your statement re Aer Lingus franchise. Let us hope so, although I can't see this really being a money spinner in the next couple of years.

Stobart Air are closing their SEN base so there is now no chance that the Caen, Groningen and Rennes routes will re-commence. The prospect of another airline being interested in the future also looks remote at this stage.

Stobart Air has ceased operations with immediate effect and will be appointing Liquidators, leaving all Aer Lingus Regional customers stranded. Hopefully Aer Lingus themselves will try to mitigate that situation. The collapse of the sale to Ettyl will come as no surprise to many and I assume Esken have now decided to cut their losses. Quite what effect this will have upon Esken itself remains to be seen.
