Cat 5 is sufficient for LCY diversions and in fact that was the maximum fire cover available at SEN until a couple of years or so ago. Since then, whenever an upgrade in fire cover is required for LCY diversions they usually go to Cat 6. Maybe they increased their capability due the introduction of the Ford flights.

Anyone know if the current air traffic control problems which seem to be affecting all London Airports have resulted in any diversions into SEN?

SEN currently receiving LCY diversions due to LCY closure as a result of a suspect package in the terminal.

I looks as if the SAS RJ85 inbound to City from Copenhagen yesterday afternoon diverted to SEN for reasons unknown.
Of course we're at the time of year when, for the past two years, fog has resulted in numerous diversion to SEN. Well, high pressure is building ........

What a great pity that SEN was fogged out all day yesterday because LCY unexpectedly and suddenly went below minima just before the evening rush. I reckon SEN could have handled its largest ever number of LCY diversions had they been open.
I see that RFF Cat 6 s available all day today - more in hope than expectation I think.

I agree, it's a shame SEN was fogged in and missed out on any LCY diversions last week. I just hope for 2009 that diversions from LCY (although welcome) are not the only time the airport actually has more than the odd daily commercial movement to deal with. It really would be nice to hear of the introduction of some services of their own.

Sounds as if staff did a good job clearing the snow off the runway tonight, at least for a short while, in between the snow showers. 2 VLM F50's diverted into SEN, but I think most other LCY diversions had to go to Stansted.

I don't think it was snow last evening at SEN that limited the diversions to just two VLM flights, it was more the fact that they could muster only Category 4 fire cover. Several BA/AF RJs diverted from LCY but, I assume, could not use SEN as they needed Category 5. Rather disappointing.
I see that Category 6 is available all day at SEN today: let's hope it is needed.

Most LCY flights are cancelled rather than being diverted according to the LCY website

Just to correct my 9.04am this morning.
Both Cityjet and BA were intending to divert their LCY flights last night, but decided against in view of the snow situation. Category 6 was in fact available at that time but was then stood down to Category 4.

Yes, LCY have suffered a double whammy this afternoon. A BA RJ suffered nosewheel damage on landing and then the cloudbase went below minima. Good to see the SEN wx is not a problem today.

Just to tidy up the LCY diversions on 5/2, they comprised: 2 x BA RJs (a 100 & an 85) 2 x VLM F50s 1 x AF/Cityjet D328 1 x C525 Citation Probably about the right number for SEN to handle efficiently at short notice at present.
