New airline for SEN so time for a new thread.
The newly announced Wizz Air services contain some surprises. Firstly the starting dates: Sibiu SBZ starts 30 October, Bucharest OTP on 22 November and Vilnius VNO on November 23.
All three are evening operations resulting in early morning arrivals at their Eastern European destinations. SEN arrival/departure times are: SBZ in 2045, out 2130, operates daily. OTP in 2040, out 2125, 5 days/week (not Tues/Sat) VNO in 1730 out 1755 Tues/Sat. Plus Thurs In 1915 out 1940 SBZ appears to have been transferred to SEN from LTN where it was generating c.100,000 pax per annum.
The new Ryanair Air SEN services announced immediately after the Wizz release operate the same days as Wizz to OTP and VNO, but commence at the end of October and feature afternoon departures (except OTP on Thursdays at 0635) It remains to be seen how this will play out.

A big name airline for SEN to attract
Interesting that FR cutting Kosice and Cluj gives Wizz the monopoly in these two (smaller) markets from London again. All caught up as well in far bigger Ryanair and Wizz tensions that also include EDI, and last week Georgia

Another evening rotation for SEN - arrive 2125, depart 2150 Mon/Wed/Fri/Sun
Good for helping to fill the traffic troughs at SEN and keeping terminal facilities open longer.

Following the loss of the Sibiu SBZ route as of March 29, it appears that SEN will now also lose the Iasi route which was due to commence on August 2. Both have been transferred to LTN.
There is already a daily IAS-LTN morning flight so perhaps the thinking is better to have both services at the same UK airport. Wizz have cancelled some other LTN services so maybe there was a need to protect those slots. All speculation as to what is behind these moves of course, but the undeniable consequence for SEN is that this summer's Wizz programme will be only half the size of what was planned. Unless of course there are other moves in the pipeline to which we are not privy.

Further reductions in the planned Wizzair SEN programme. VNO is cancelled and OTP reduced to 3/week: Tu/Thurs/sat initially from July 2, then Mon/Wed/Fri from July 20.
The Wizzair website shows SEN-OTP at three per week well into the 2021 summer season but after March 31 the Monday and Friday flights are shown as "Sold Out" . Its too far away in the present volatile situation to draw conclusions other than perhaps derive some encouragement from the signs that Wizzair have not given up on SEN. But its hard to see that hoped for levels of Wizz operation at SEN will be achieved any time soon. The new factor in the equation appears to be LGW which Wizz have indicated they intend to make a major centre of expansion. On the other hand Wizzair is a very large operator with significant growth plans, and both EZY and RYR manage to operate from four London area airports.

I rather doubt that Wizzair will feature at SEN for very long. After all, they were attracted to SEN on the basis that there was a shortage of suitable slots at both LTN and LGW. That situation no longer exists and with Ryanair having taken on Wizzair on the SEN-OTP route there doesn't seem much logic in them sticking with SEN now.

I'm sure SEN will do their best to retain them, but with the current situation it's unlikely that normal demand will return for at least a year or so, in which time the larger more established airports (LGW, STN, LTN) will have their spare capacity filled. It might be that Wizzair withdraw from SEN in the short term, but perhaps come back again once the demand picks up. We'll wait and see...

Bit naughty Wizz using SEN presence on website to scrape punters into their LUT & LGW operations, apart from a very limited amount of Xmas flights to OTP from SEN (one with a price of over £300), there doesn't appear to be any serious intent to operate any flights from SEN for the winter. I hope things change soon.

Can't find any the previously available Christmas period flights now - they've all been 'disappeared'. LUT & LGW keeping services.
