From today's Times newspaper:
So, if the Tories form the next government, we could get a 2nd runway for our dozen or so commercial flights per week. Now that's what I call progress ! ;D

It should be worth listening to 'You and Yours' on Radio 4 Monday next at midday. They will be featuring Stobart's multimodal transport strategy involving road, rail and air transport. I believe it's Andrew Tinkler that they will be talking to, so some useful snippets regarding SEN should come out.

There is a story in tonight's Echo headlined, 'Airport station work to start'.
A quote from Alistair Welch states that;
My understanding was that work would start in February for an October opening. To me the quote from Alistair Welch suggests that he is revising his dates for the station yet again. As I think I posted somewhere else on this forum, I'll believe it when they actually start to do some work.

We shouldn't be surprised if there is a delay, but that will surely be due to the recession rather than to any basic lack of commitment on Stobart's part. They would not have sent their engineers to SEN if they weren't still interested. The railway station is the crucial part of the development, even more so than the runway extension I believe. It isn't easy to get a decision to work on the line, so they'll give up their window with great reluctance, I'd have thought. Let's keep our finhgers crossed that things go ahead as planned.

Andrew Tinkler didn't have anything new to say regarding SEN during his Radio 4 interview this lunchtime, other than taking the opportunity of saying that SEN was open this morning and had accepted some diversions from other London airports during the current snow disruption. He also reiterated that he was talking to airlines about integrating passenger and urgent freight consignments onto the hoped for scheduled services. He also confirmed that he hoped a CAX-SEN scheduled service would be introduced with services to European destinations following on.
Regarding the station, I understand that Willowair are moving from the Eastern boundary to the admin block beneath the tower and the B52 Club have also been given notice to move. Another step in bringing the start of construction closer.

Another front page article in todays Echo states that the Airport Station will be open by the end of the year - in time for the (rail) winter timetable.
Apparently, Andrew Tinkler, "who was touring the airport for the first time' stated that ' The station and a longer runway with more passengers will come to fruition and we have the funds in place to deliver that'.
Mr Tinkler was accompanied on the tour yesterday by Alistair Welch and councillors from both Rochford and Southend.

The Icejet J328s continue to rotate through SEN, with three examples being on the ground together on 5/2/09. Their utilisation seems very poor at present, but all bizjet operators are finding things difficult with business down by as much as 40% for some operators.

Today sees the start of the delivery to 55,000 households of a Newsletter which will put the airport noise case to the public to show that the fear of increased 'noise pollution' is misplaced. I assume the Newsletter will contain other information but I haven't had sight of one yet.

The Newsletter looks good. I notice that they are still referring to the Airbus A319 as the aircraft to use the airport's extended runway rather than the E195. I wonder why? Are they hankering after Easyjet? And is the A319 really quieter than the BAe 146?
Also a number of developments seem to have taken place without us being aware of them? The fuel tanks and taxiway improvements, new runway access saftey equipment....?
Great stuff, anyway. Good luck to everybody involved in this long overdue development.

A cash machine has now been installed in the terminal, I see. You can get Euros out of it as well. Lets hope it is well used.

All good very positive news re the cash machine and fire tenders. All that's needed now is an airline or 2 and some passengers. I don't recall the airport ever being as quiet as it is at the moment, with very little in the way of commercial movements. At least work seems to be moving ahead at a good pace on the railway station,- hopefully that will attract an airline.
