OK Expressflight. I know you can't give us details, but are you at least able to take a stab at when the surprise you refer to is likely to take place? Simply before the end of the year is a bit vague... No one will criticise you if it turns out to be wide of the mark.
Thanks for all the information you supply, hopefully there are some interesting developments in the offing.

It shouldn't be a complete surprise as it has been referred to in the past, but we're talking about early summer with the announcement being well before that. It's by no means a certainty though even at this stage. I hope that helps.

I expect most of you already know, today was the official opening of the terminal extension by the Secretary of State for Transport,i wasnt expecting any new route announcements and so far havnt heard of any. I hope all who attended were impressed by what has been achieved in the new look bigger terminal, especially the departures area which is now some four times the size of the previous one. However i was wondering if anyone knows why the rest of the turf at the end of the terminal extension has not been laid, its been there for about six to eight weeks, despite the very wet winter we had the first lot of turf. in front of the terminal extension was laid a long time ago, cant understand why this lot of turf has just been left there so long to rot, its does look a bit of a eyesore especially with all the rest of the work now completed.

Yes the uncompleted grass area does stand out as looking rather peculiar. Also the airside area between the terminal and the control tower looks like a waste land at present. I thought the artists impression of the new terminal implied this would be grassed. On the other hand perhaps there is another use planned for it, such as parking and storage of ground support equipment? Right now stands 5 and 9 seem to be used for this purpose and perhaps why they are notam'd as u/s.

I understand that this will be grassed in the next few weeks as an 'Eco meadow' !, yes that's what I thought as well !!

I don't suppose those that were quick to jump on the original "story", quoting it as a matter of fact, will issue apologies and admit that they were wrong: News and Star

Back in April this year i posted on here about the uncompleted grass area opposite the end of the terminal extension, also the airside area between the terminal and the control tower, well it still looks a complete eyesore with all the unlaid turf which has been there for many months, unkept long grass and weeds, this really spoils the look of our otherwise fine modern Airport and i cant understand why its been left in this state. When flying back from a holiday in June from Palma, i heard a couple of other pax talking about it while i was waiting for my lift home. Does anybody know why its been left in this dreadful condition for so long?

I did hear a few weeks ago that the 'forecourt' in the terminal area would be re-configured shortly so I suppose it may be that those areas currently being left to nature may be the location of those works. At present there are no coach bays for example so maybe they will form part of the new layout.

But while the lack of coach bays might seem an omission in need of correction, who I wonder would actually use them in the foreseeable future? The Airport Consultative Committee minutes for February mentioned the possibility of a covered area for boarding taxis - could that be what is planned for the forecourt ?
On the airfield, recent NOTAMS have covered work on taxiways B and C. Could this have included installation of centreline lighting, which has been completely absent on B and partially absent on C ? The advantage of continuous C/L lighting could be the alleviation of the Low Visibility Procedures which would become increasingly burdensome as traffic levels increase. Also I note that the restriction on larger aircraft such as A319s on TWY C no longer appear in the NOTAMs. If these have indeed been removed, this would be another worthwhile improvement.
