I don't have any definite information on the runway works. I believe a new profile surface layer might be needed. but perhaps not a full re-surfacing, followed by grooving of the new surface. It looks as if this might not commence until January but again I cannot speak with any certainty. Obviously the work should take less time than a full re-surfacing so three months, even in winter, should be sufficient.
Regarding the terminal extensions a commencement in April 2019 has been mentioned. At present a variation to the original planning consent is awaiting a decision, this being in relation to matters including a re-design of the roof of the northern extension.

www.southendstandard.co.uk/news/17187215.southend-council-want-a-fourth-thames-crossing-and-crossrail-extension/Some interesting potential developments here which could improve access to the airport and hence its attractiveness to passengers. In particular: As part of the new strategy, the council wants to build a new outer relief road - from a point near the A130 linking up to an area just north of Southend - to speed up and streamline traffic flow in and out of the town.
Investment in the A127 as a trunk road and extending Crossrail – a rail service linking Heathrow Airport and Shenfield - should also be extended to Southend to support the town’s airport, the council saysI would think the "outer relief road" would have the most potential benefit to the airport, depending on how the Southend end is organised, whereas the A127 perhaps holds only limited potential for improvement because of the proximity of existing buildings along much of the route.

It appears that the variation of the planning consent referred to by expressflight above was approved today.
Another recent approval was for a hard standing and equipment compound to the north of the new terminal extension.

Nice to see that there will at least be some aviation related development in the Airport Business Park: IPECO , they are a good employer to keep in the town. Echo itemShame that no companies to drive the aviation movements side of things, (ie: Gulfstream maintenance hangar or similar) have been targeted for this park. Regrettably I get the impression that there was never any intention to populate the park with businesses that would require airside access to the runway.

I think you are correct, the Airport Business Park was so named simply because it is adjacent to the airport. It was never intended to be part of the airport as I understand it.
IPECO have been long term occupants of sites in the existing industrial area so essentially it looks as though they are transferring their location to the other side of Aviation Way but into a much improved facility.

Nice to see the airport is now notified at RFFS CAT 7 - I doubt it has ever been that high in it's history to date.

Well spotted TG.
RFFS category is based on fuselage length, and the step up from RFFS6 to RFFS7 comes at 39m. The A320 length is 37.57m, and the 738 is 39.47m. It was OK to use RFFS6 for the 738 while there were only occasional movements of the type, but once FR started full scale operations RFFS7 was required.

A number of sources have suggested in recent days that early and late train services between SEN and Liverpool Street might commence before too long. The latest report indicated that these might terminate and originate at SEN with a limited stop service to and from Liverpool Street. Nothing definite as yet but a new timetable is due to begin in May but is not yet published.

I see that following the resurfacing work the published runway bearing strength has increased from PCN39 to PCN46. All the taxiways and stands (except D and F) were already PCN47.

Following on my post of two weeks ago the new GA timetable is now published and early and late trains will run between Liverpool Street and SEN with effect from 9th September 2019. There will be an 04:30 or 04:35 departure (excluding Sundays at present) from London which arrives SEN either 05:17 or 05:29 depending on the day of the week. This service will call at Stratford only, then direct to SEN where it terminates. In the evening there will be a 23:59 departure, originating from SEN, each day which arrives Liverpool Street at 00:55, stopping just at Shenfield and Stratford. I assume that the track repairs/renewals currently under way precluded this service from starting any earlier than September.

That's massive news for SEN, as you predicted to the poo-poo'ing of several naysayers on other fora, not on this civilised board though. A shame that Sunday AM couldn't be included too - perhaps to allow a longer engineering slot "going forwards".

A once-daily in each direction double-decker coach service between London Victoria and SEN will commence on 8th June. The Jetlink X1 will depart London Victoria at 03:05 and arrive SEN at 04:35. There is a late evening departure from SEN at 23:40 arriving London Victoria at 01:15. Calling points are Embankment and Canning Town stations plus Lakeside. Single adult fare is £15.

That is a good development for passengers. Do you have any sense that it is temporary until the later/earlier train starts in September, or is it intended to become permanent if used in sufficient numbers? If permanent, it could well dent the usage of the extra train, thus undermining it's viability. But the (extra) train is only 6 days a week anyway. Either way the many taxi-drivers will be upset!
