The Flightline and Air Livery (South) hangars are to be refurbished and ATC Lasham will be taking them over, resulting in additional jobs being created. Expect an official announcement soon.
Agreement with Network Rail on the station will also be announced shortly once the necessary protocols have been observed.

At long last it looks like some progress is being made . On the Southend Road side of the site both yesterday and today Stobart Rail men can be seen working on and around the tracks and excavators are levelling and removing earth inside the boundaries of the railway where presumably the platforms will be. Other activity can be seen on the airport side.

ATC Lasham have issued a Press Release confirming their acquisition of the Air Livery (South) and Flightline hangars as anticipated. With the Euro being so strong they probably expect additional European work to come their way and this is good news for employment prospects at SEN.

Local radio and the Echo have published the councils noise and night restrictions for any planning future consents today.

I'm really surprised, and delighted, that the night movement restrictions are going to be so tight. That, coupled with limits on total movements of which only 10% can be freight flights, really will take the wind out of the sails of the anti brigade.
Equally important is that SEN/Stobarts have realised that such restrictions are the only likely way to achieve the desired runway extension. I had been afraid that they would hold out for a much smaller reduction in the number of night flights but it has been confirmed to me that they are fully behind these restrictions and conditions so won't be seeking any dilution of them.
No more from me for a week as I'm off on holiday today.

The station is emerging from the ground this morning, always good when you start to see something other than the earthworks. Look like concrete supports.

The flysouthend2012 website now contains the full planning application for expansion of the airport. www.flysouthend2012.com/

All this action at once, after so much waiting. Maybe Expressflight should go on holiday more often! Remember the planning application is just the start of a new phase of the process- it deserves at least a letter of support to the Council/Local Councillors etc. You can bet your bottom dollar that there will be enough antis trying to delay the aplication and get it turned down, by writing similarly.

Burgundy was very nice thank you, but we'll take another holiday if you think it might help - any chance of a whip-round to pay for it? And just when you start thinking this is enough 'progress' for now, up comes the planning application for the new control tower. Details are on the RDC website under reference 09/00570/PD. It's to be located just East of the present Eastern taxyway, at the point where Southend Road is closest to the railway, on the bend. It looks quite impressive on the plans with a height of about 90 feet.
I wonder if Air Humberside thinks there should be some changes/consolidation of the topics, as we currently have Phase I Developments, Phase II Developments and Progress all covering much the same ground. Does the 'SEN Development Plan' now need to be unified perhaps in just one topic?

I'll leave that up to you since the SEN forum tends to sort itself out. Unfortuantely I can't merge threads using this software, so it may be easier for you to start one new thread and I can lock the ones it replaces if everyone is fine with that?

Either way is good for me. I guess there will be a fair bit to comment on over the next few months/years....

I suppose it would be simpler, now that both Phase I and Phase II are actually in the 'progress' phase, if those threads were locked and the Progress thread was used for all infrastructure news in future.
The full Declared Distances for the extended runway are now available and these would be: Runways 06 & 24: TORA 1739 TODA 1799 ASDA 1739 LDA 1604 As well as being great improvements on the current figures, they have the merit of being the same for both runways. Mind you, an 80m starter extension has had to be added to 06 to achieve the balanced take-off distances.
The Environmental Impact Statement shows the anticipated mix of 2020 traffic for the 'Base Case' (no runway extension) and the 'Development Case'. Interestingly, the ATR72-500 would account for 13% of movements in both cases (around 19 movements per day) and the Q400 around 10% in both cases (around 14 per day). The A319 and E195 appear only in the Development Case scenario with 20% (29 movements per day)and less than one movement per day respectively. Whether this provides a meaningful insight into the target carriers involved - a well known ATR72 operator comes to mind while Flybe seem to be seen as a potential Q400 operator only - I don't know.
Finally, would it be possible for someone local to keep us up to date on progress with the station on at least a monthly basis do you think?
