Im not sure on that one, it looks to me like they're going to replace the dash aircraft as they get older...
Would be nice though, and an 88 seater would allow for higher frequency from HUY, but i still couldnt see any demand for a year round base with BE.

These EMB-175's seem to be for growth, though long term I agree the Dash 8 may not have a future with BE
And the growth seems to be aimed at continental europe. I think its only a matter of time before Flybe announce their first none-UK route. While I'm sure some UK expansion with occur, I don't really think it changes BE's HUY prospects, short of them ever opening a base in somewhere like Malaga - but I suspect BE will focus on France and more business orientated markets

Well i cant see their European expansion apeing FR, so i dont see bases at ALC or AGP any time soon..
Like you say H, i can see a bigger tie in with AF and BE providing some regional routes for them. Of course there is the chance of more UK regional connections perhaps to CDG etc.. but i suspect HUY would be left out of the running for them due to KLM, assuming they're still here which i think (and hope) they will be.

"[The 175] is an 88-seat aircraft that has good range performance. It will allow us to [fly to] more German regional cities from the UK, the same for France, the Netherlands, Scandinavia - a long term target - and Spain."
I am optimistic!

I hope your optimism brings something from this Mike.
I know you used to work at BE (I think??) so would you say that HUY has ever got a chance of becoming a year round base with BE? Particularly with those smaller jets? The reason i say this is because i cannot see them ever basing at AGP or ALC due to FR's heavy presence. The problem is the winter, i would have thought a based operator would want to be able to serve the canaries rather than mainland Spain at that time of the year? Or are there any potential winter routes that would keep a 175 busy for the week from HUY?
By the looks of it the AGP is doing very well, and i believe the flights are full for several weeks. Im sure that wont go unnoticed as it will be largely seat only pax, so im sure a slightly higher frequency and a few more destinations could be on the cards?

In all honesty, I doubt the viability of a HUY base in the winter. Asides from weekly ALC and AGP, maybe something like CDG and DUB, but certainly not enough flying for a based a/c.
Summer on the other hand is certainly viable. Alicante, Faro, Ibiza, Malaga and Palma with a higher frequency 88 seater would certainly work.
We will have to sit tight, but AGP sounds like it is showing BE that HUY CAN support seat only sun routes.

Mike

I think perhaps weekly ALC, AGP and GVA flights in the winter could work, with perhaps a based machine during the summer season? The only shame is that BE cannot reach the Canaries, which are proven strong year round destinations that are unlikely now to be picked back up

From the latest MAG accounts "Charter traffic consolidation has led to Mediterranean services being removed from Humberside Airport so the airport has worked with Flybe to assess demand and subsequently trial a Malaga service for Summer 2010. The forward bookings and yields have surpassed expectations and we are now looking at extending this model for Summer 2011."

HUY-AGP 1047 in July. So a rounded up average of 105 per flight carried. Not sure of the load factor but must be in the 90's?

On the Doncaster section, comment following their July figures suggests that their DSA/DUB numbers are so poor that the HUY management should be talking to Flybe about the dormant HUY/DUB route. As someone who has flown on this route, I think this sounds like an excellent suggestion. Flybe fly to Dublin from Exeter and Southampton so they could surely manage a W pattern from there. The aborted service from Belfast Harbour to Humberside might become viable if it became a revenue-generating positioning flight in order to provide a HUY/DUB connection.

That i feel would be unlikely. I think that a DUB route would require a based aircraft, so it could be done should BE want to offer more summer routes next year as it would be a good way to utilize the aircraft, but i cant see any expansion forthcoming with 'w' patterns, even to Spain.
I fully believe management should be talking to FR again however.
