My initial reaction was WTF?? I have no doubt that the route will be a success, but it seems bizarre that they pull out of MME just up the road, and then open HUY! I would really hope this is just the start, but then we thought that with BE Positive, positive, positive! Regards Mike

I think that press release means it's pretty obvious it's a MAG deal. What FR are really bothered about is MAN
I'm split on this. On one hand this is growth, and no-one else is about to offer anything similar at the moment. Plus at least MAG are trying with HUY. So credit were it is due.
But on the other hand I do feel uncomfortable with the way FR operates, and also should anyone like Jet 2 reconsider HUY in the future, FR will put them off. I have to say this announcement does not immediately fill me with hope and optimism

could it be MAG did a deal with Ryanair, a bit like Easyet did a deal with peel?

An interview with Tony Lavan on R.H. he said very pleased with the flights and is hoping to get Winter flights for this year. A further interview with Ryanair rep. said more flights to other sunspots., could be coming to HUY if the Alicante flights prove to be popular.
Does anybody think the Flybe flights to Malga will return after this news, i think this will prompt them into comong back.

could it be MAG did a deal with Ryanair, a bit like Easyet did a deal with peel? Must be. The way it was bundled in with the MAN announcement makes me think FR may have got a slightly better deal at MAN in return for serving HUY. The clear prize here for Ryanair was MAN An interview with Tony Lavan on R.H. he said very pleased with the flights and is hoping to get Winter flights for this year. What radio humberside show was this on, and roughly what time? Should be able to listen back on iplayer. Was the comment about winter flights in relation to Ryanair specifically? I would be surprised if Ryanair did HUY-ALC year round, but maybe a Canaries flight is being hoped for A further interview with Ryanair rep. said more flights to other sunspots., could be coming to HUY if the Alicante flights prove to be popular. A pretty standard comment IMO. Obviously the popularity, or otherwise, of ALC will affect Ryanair's future plans for HUY, but their relationship with MAG, and Peel/VAS will probably have more of an affect. HUY is a 'bargaining chip' for Ryanair I think. They can pressurise MAG for a better deal by threatening to withdraw, and can pressurise DSA by threatening to move flights to HUY Does anybody think the Flybe flights to Malga will return after this news, i think this will prompt them into comong back. Personally I think the exact opposite. Spain is not an important market for Flybe, and neither is HUY. They don't look to be coming back anyway, and even if they had, and had added ALC, they have better things to do that defending Summer Saturday only non-core routes

I know some people at Ryanair and it is defintiely a MAG deal. To get the lower fees at East Mids and Bournmouth they have to hit a target for passenger numbers. They aren't hitting those so they have put some flights into other MAG airports to make sure the deal isn't broken overall

Here's the show www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p00d57rn/Phil_White_26_01_2011/Could only find a brief mention on the news headlines around the 1hour30 mark (which would be 16:30) but don't have much time to go fully through the whole show now. If anyone could find what time exactly the interviews were at, would be appreicated. Thanks

Lets hope so John, though it does seem to be the usual rhetoric.
Interesting Tony Lavan suggested winter flights, apparantly not long ago he said in a staff forum that winter flights were'nt on the agenda at the moment due to costs or something i think. Lets hope they can come to something. It seems Ryanair might be the only hope at the moment.
