RE.Cargo. As far as i could see the cargo was taken off the lorry and put into the white van which left the airport and headed towards A.18. The cargo seemed to consist of about 30.40.boxes like the old brown amunition cases. Best i can do...

Unfortunately I got there after they had unloaded the cargo - while ServisAir were chasing round for the outward bound weather and flight plan. Re.Cargo - my inside source says the cargo was mortar rounds and it could be a regular run!

Welcome news if confirmed holdatcharlie.
Does your inside source know the proposed frequency?

Am I being a cynical old sod? It does seem strange to me that such a large aircraft, which looked in great condition from the photos, would come all the way to Huy from Egypt with a few boxes of mortar rounds on board. Surely the cargo would be of higher importance or higher value than that? Did it land at Huy because the military bases were closed for the weekend? I await its return with interest.

350 Biker. Like you I am puzzled by this cargo. It was obviously unusual. Cargo doesn't get unloaded on 26 every day! And with two police vehicles at the road end. If it was ammunition who was the customer? Surely only military can use that sort of stuff - and if it was military they would have received it at a military airfield - or at least loaded it straight onto a military vehicle. I didn't hear any security radio messages either. So, airport security didn't seem too involved. Apparently this aircraft was built in the late 60's and did look in good nick (apart from the black smoke - obviously burning poor quality coal!). It gets around - it was at Birmingham in March: www.flickr.com/photos/dc-7c/6950539875/ Does anyone know anything about the airline (Meridian)?
