I will eat my hat if it ever comes to anything (and if it does, it wont be for many many years) however... In Heathrows official response to the Davies committee looking at the issues around expanding Heathrow/Boris Island, the paragraph below caught my eye... Heathrow would also have the capacity to connect to a number of routes within the British Isles currently served by competing hub airports in Europe, for example: Guernsey, Jersey, Inverness, Isle of Man and Humberside. Connecting ten UK regional airports, with an average of three services each per day, and connecting 40 more long-haul destinations with a daily service requires 50k ATMs (Air Transport Movements) per annum. This represents about 20% of the full potential additional ATMs of a third runway. The remaining 80% of additional capacity would be used over time to improve connectivity via increased frequencies on existing long-haul routes and across the short-haul network. I think that these days, unless there was a major overhaul of the interline facilities at LHR, a HUY-LHR route would struggle against the far superior HUY-AMS service.
I don't believe that any new runway at LHR, or even a Boris Island development, would make a London-UK regions route economically viable beyond perhaps INV, IOM and the Channel Islands.

In today's business news bulletin from Businessdesk.co comes the news that JetXtra.com is expecting to start weekly flights ex HUY to Alicante and Majorca using BA aircraft! these are the same flights they operated last summer using Volotea. Personally I'd like to have seen Volotea aircraft still on the flight but nice to see JetExtra are still operating these flights.

Airport twitter feed says news about new flights soon. Wonder if Eastern are to launch a route to Billund??

The one major drawback of Eastern launching a new route, is that the current based J41 is busy all day operating Aberdeen, with no space in the schedule to launch new flights, a second based aircraft, would be needed - That would need several flights per day to utilise full time. That said though - IF there is a new route to come though, my most likely candidates would be Eastern to replace Copenhagen, and/or add Billund. Other likely candidates are Linksair (They have many many gaps in their current DSA schedule). Also Thomson Summer 15 brochures due in the next month - fingers crossed that the Palma/Ibiza re-appear and actually happen next year!

There's a flight coming in from Stuttgart tonight, according to the board. Is this a one off?

Only a one off unfortunately - Hull City have a preseason friendly against Stuttgart today, so it is their return flight to HUY.

Unfortunately, this is not a new regular business destination. It is an Eastern Airways charter flight bringing the Hull City football team back from a friendly match in Stuttgart.

www.ch-aviation.com/portal/news/39447-leeds-based-start-up-extrajet-eyes-euro-flights-from-1q2016Looks like a new start up is planning to operate out of Leeds from next year to Copenhagen & Antwerp using 2 x leased BMIR EMB35's. I wonder if HUY to CPH features in there longer term plans? Hope the airport are talking to them! Incidentally, if Jet2 were non to impressed with JetXtra operating out of Humberside, not sure what they will make of an airline named ExtraJet operating out of LBA!

With an estimated one million extra visitors expected in the area during 2017, could there be scope for any new air services? One would expect the proportion of visitors arriving by air to be very low, but it could add a few thousand passengers to the numbers over the year. The fact that the airport have advertised for an Airline Business Partners / City of Culture Liaison Executive suggests that they see an opportunity which is likely to boost the passenger total and develop relationships for future years.
KLM should be the main beneficiary, but hopefully Eastern Airways will also gain. If they are regularly doing work at London City for British Airways, there might be a regular pattern of positioning flights over weekends which could be turned into useful revenue services. Flybe have started to sell seats on their positioning flights (relating to weekend Jersey routes) from Southampton next summer. There should be a particular demand for London transport links when the Turner Prize exhibition is held between 26th September and 7th January 2018.

The airport have sent a tweet to a potential London passenger whose twitter name is SarfEndCaff. They say that, at the moment, they have no plans to start a London route.
