I've used an Icom ICR2 for years to monitor radio traffic at HUY. But, like me, it's getting old. So I got an ICR5 off ebay a few weeks ago - t's supposed to have more whistles and bells than the ICR2. In fact it's the whistles that are causing me problems.
On the main radar channel 119.125 I now get a lot of interference (but not all the time) which is sometimes like when a transmission is 'stepped on' buy another. Sometimes it is a whine that rises and falls in tone. Often it locks the channel and I have to manually turn the dial to continue scanning. Now this doesn't happen on the ICR2. So, I don't know whether: a) the ICR2 is more sensitive (it does seem to pick up weeker signals) b) there is something in the radio causing it. I know it has a separate buil-in ferrite rod AM antenna c) I have a dodgy radio.
Anyone use an ICR5 and have any problems?
