In the past few days there have been some totally unacceptable comments from guests, and requests to ban guest posting as a result. So far I have kept the forum open for guests to post in because some guests make very valuable contributions. However the actions of a few mean this needs to be reconsidered
So please post any thoughts on the future of guest posting in this thread. In particular I want to hear from those guests who do make valuable contributions - would the need to register mean you stop contributing?

I think it would deter - why let a few idiots spoil what is normally lively, positive dialogue on this forum.

I agree in a way visitor, however I know that 'Humberside' is alot busier at the moment, and perhaps doesnt have the time during the day to delete such posts if they continue. If those posts are allowed to remain on the forum for a number of hours then it will not only have a negative impact on peoples perceptions of the forum (the posts in question were absolutely disgusting), but if there were complaints then I dont think proboards would take lightly to them either.
I'm not sure how it works on here from a mod point of view, but if possible Humberside could you flag up all posts by guests to be approved by yourself before they appear on the forum?
Out of interest visitor. Is there a particular reason for you not joining up as a member?

I guess it's related to level of interest and commitment. When there's something I want talk about I might post. Membership to me implies an ongoing interest and commitment to making the Forum itself work well. Sadly this is beyond my time commitment and interest level at the moment - things could change. Members should put something into the group (whatever it is) they belong to - old fashioned view maybe but it's mine.
Happy to be an observer and make occasional comment when I think useful at this time.

Is it that time consuming to register though? I have hardly posted anything but still check the forum everyday without logging in.

I agree with blake. If you have an email address then it will only take a couple of minutes to register properly. No need to post all the time. It should also encourage others to join who perhaps only post now and then and increase discussion on here.
Ive noticed one or two new members who have joined up just in the last few weeks due to the new flights..
Certainly one to consider if guest posts cant be held awaiting approval..

Sadly there doesn't seem to be a way to moderate guest posts before they appear. However this wouldn't be ideal anyway due the time this would involve and the fact guest posts could be made without being aware of other guest posts awaiting approval - a problem I have encountered on my Humber Transport blog were I have to pre-approve comments due to very high levels of spam. There was a case recently of having three comments awaiting approval; the first provided information and the other two were speculation - when all three were approved the last two looked rather silly but they didn't know about the first comment when submitting theirs for approval
It really is disheartening to come on here and instead of discussing aviation, having to deal with one or two guests that spoil it for everyone else. Today is the final straw, and regretably guest posting will no longer be possible. I don't want to have to do this, but the past week has been unacceptable
So to guests, please register. There is no commitment involved. And if for whatever reason you don't want to register, then thank you to the vast majority that have made valuable contributions to the forum over the past few years. It has been appreciated

I think youve made the right choice Humberside, and I would strongly urge people such as visitor (with a small v!) to join.
Hopefully it can only make the forum busier.

Following the above trouble, I think it is an appropriate moment to say how much these forums are appreciated. They provide much information and comment on a wide range of carefully selected locations and topics. I would like to thank Humberside for all the time and effort in setting them up and maintaining them. I hope that an increasing number of participants will register and contribute to the site. On this note, it is pleasing that the two current potential start-ups at HUY are both providing input. It reminds me of the occasion when Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou made a posting on the KLMuk forum !
