According to the Janes Aviation website, the company has two BAe748s. Presumably one aircraft would only be required for the Liverpool/IOM operation. Does anyone know where the second aircraft is based?

Both aircraft are based at LPL. The first was moved there because Janes were initially unable to train any new crew and the existing crew all lived in the North-West. There seemed little point in having an aircraft at SEN and no local crew to fly it should ad hoc charters arise.

Originally the website said Janes were based at SEN, but that assertion has rapidly been erased.

I suppose a Stobart purchase could bring more cargo. Southend does have the facilities to handle a few more tonnes than it does so currently

One of the concerns which objectors have to a runway extension is that it could result in more night freight flights. That certainly could be the case and I think it is something the owners of SEN (whoever they turn out to be) will need to address. It's important not to give the 'antis' something which they can use to stir up general public objections to the planned expansion.

The two Janes 748s are now back at SEN, the first having arrived late last week and the second arriving yesterday. Whether this means there is a contract in the offing or what I really don't know.

There has been quite a flurry of light freight activity recently with five different SW3/4s being present at various times on 13 October. In the last four days of that week there were 30-odd movements by SW3/4s to various destinations.
Whether this is just a 'blip' or the result of efforts to attract such traffic to SEN I don't know, but it's nice to be able to report on actual airport activity for a change rather than just development plans and a slowly emerging station. Talking of which, the Stobart half-year accounts say it should open in May 2010 subject to appropriate track possessions being granted.

Nice to see that a quick rebuttal was issued by the airport. This so-called expert BJ Free would give the impression of deliberately misunderstanding everything that has been published in the JAAP and Planning application. His address says everything you need to know!
I heard that the metros had mainly been to and from Pescara, Italy, and were just have turned up out of the blue - car parts maybe? In which case, I'm sure that they will disappear again as quickly as they started. Nice if they did stay for a while, though!

Could I suggest that members write a letter to the Echo, as I have just done, refuting Mr Free's claims by pointing out the flasehood of his 'facts'?

WITH REF TO THE EXTRA METROLINER MOVEMENTS THEY ARE INDEED CAR PARTS FLIGHTS, THEY OPERATING HERE AND PARKING HERE AS COVENTRY CLOSES AT NIGHT EXCEPT FOR CERTAIN FLIGHTS AND THE CHARGE FOR OPENING FOR THESE METROLINER FLIGHTS WOULD BE TOO EXPENSIVE SO THEY ARE USING SOUTHEND INSTEAD.
