You're being a bit overly dramatic there, SO. This service operated a while back into Stansted, and was pulled fro whatever reason. The Southend market is largely different, the service being closely aligned with a travel company that has offered these packages for a looong time, and has quite a loyal/satisfied clientele. Technically the Southend service is a schedule, but this more for reasons of publicity for Flybe at the time; it actually more closely resembles a charter in reality, and the large Southend local catchment values the service because of the ease of use of flying from Southend over a long journey/check-in time at other London airports.

I second TG's thoughts on the JER route.
I understand that discussions have taken place with a certain UK airline (not Flybe) with the aim of services starting from SEN coincident with the opening of the station. I doubt that this would be before Spring 2010 though in reality.

I hear that Trans Euro Air have moved most of their based aircraft down to Lydd. They really ought to update their website to reflect this. Must have been a good offer to attract them down to that neck of the woods!

I believe the SEN movement fees and parking charges were increased this month so that may have something to do with it. They always had the disadvantage of having to park their whole fleet on the main apron rather than having a facility of their own, so if things have gone really quiet the parking element may have become significant in their costs.
I agree that Lydd is a very strange choice of location as much of their work must have been from clients based in the Essex/East London corridor so they'll have to position into SEN to service that existing work surely. I wonder why they didn't choice Biggin.

Atlantic Airways RJ85 OY-RCE arrived SEN 27/4 from BRU as FLI 121 and returned to BRU on 30/4 as FLI 122. In between into positioned into LCY 29/4 using a BA positioning flight number and returned to SEN from GLA later that day, also with a BA positioning flight number.
My question is, did it just position into SEN on 27th in order to operate a BA sub-charter ex LCY two days later or did it actually operate revenue sectors BRU-SEN-BRU. I suspect not, but just wonder why it used SEN at all if not.

Fairly sure the same aircraft (certainly an Atlantic Airways RJ) positioned back into SEN yesterday evening.

I've exchanged emails with Trans Euro Air in the past couple of days on the subject of their move of the SEN-based fleet to LYD but am not much the wiser as a result. One interesting thing they said was "We still operate two 19-seat Metroliners from Southend....". As far as I know, the only SEN-based Metroliner is the BinAir aircraft that operates the Kassel contract. Perhaps TEA have that contract and use Binair, but which is the second aircraft they mention - and how many pax flights have actually been operated I wonder. There's nothing about Metroliners on their website that I could find.

Roche was quite right, RJ85 OY-RCE visited SEN again on 4 May and seems to be temporarily based there to provide back-up to BA's LCY RJ operations. Interesting visitor the day before was Danish Air Transport ATR42 OY-CIR, from/to Floro in Norway. Whether there is any connection with the RJ85 I don't know, but I suppose it could have been bringing in a spares supply. Anyone know?

Stobart Group announced today that they expect to complete their puchase of Carlisle Airport by 30 May 2009, at a cost of £14 million - see more details on the Carlisle Airport thread in 'Civil Aviation'.
Another step on the road to a scheduled service between CAX and SEN hopefully.

Ther's an interesting snippet in the Scoping Report for the runway extension concerning projected pax figures for 2010. A report by Aviasolutions dated April 2009 shows the following projected SEN passenger figures for 2010:
Low-Cost Regional 7,500 Regional 38,500 Ford 45,000 Other 1,000
As this forecast is very recent, I wonder if specific operators/routes have been pencilled in for 2010. Obviously at that time they also thought the Ford CGN would be reinstated by 2010.

It looks as if the Jersey route will operate again in 2010, as the BE1112/3 arriving SEN 14:25 and departing 15:05. It hasn't appeared on the FlyBe schedule yet, but I see Newmarket Holidays are offering packages on three dates next summer. Is this the first time they have done this? When I spoke to them earlier this year about the potential for packages from SEN in general, they said they didn't feel there was sufficient demand.

Newmarket have 3 JER packages on sale from HUY for next summer - first time they have offered Jersey from HUY. Maybe they have struck a deal with Flybe that covers all their Jersey flights?
