Having used this service recently, the flights (and airport) were virtually empty. I think it's a good job that the airport are effectively subsidising the operation.. I think there'll be more changes to come if this is to have any longevity.

Flybe expects to make a small loss for the year ending 31st March 2017. In addition there will a loss of between £5m and £10m. This cost is caused by provisions and write-downs which will be required in connection with an upgrade of the information-technology systems. They have stated that they will cut down on unprofitable flying. They made no mention of whether Project Blackbird routes are profitable from their standpoint.

A poster on pprune, who appears to be associated with Flybe, has expressed some personal opinions on the 'subsidised bases and flights'. Newquay and Cardiff are performing very well so will continue. Exeter and Norwich doing well in the summer but winter is a different story. 'Doncaster is, well, the one that I think could be looked at in closer detail'.
It was stressed that these are merely the poster's personal opinions.

Flybe have published their winter timetable for 2017/2018. DSA has 21 flights per week, utilising one aircraft. The assumption is that the E195 is being returned to the lessors and that the E175 will remain at DSA. If this is the case, the November capacity will be 15,664. This compares with 28,632 for November 2016 and represents a reduction of 45% for that month.
