The longest serving airline in the Channel Islands is to begin a seasonal, Saturday service to Guernsey from Norwich Airport. Aurigny will start flying the route on 14th May 2016 and it will continue across the summer until 17th September. Flights will depart Norwich at 0925 and arrive into Guernsey just before 11am. The return departs Guernsey at 0730, arriving back in Norwich at 0855.
Malcolm Coupar, Aurigny’s Commercial Director, says: “Norwich has traditionally enjoyed a seasonal air link with Guernsey and when Flybe decided not to run the route next year, we were delighted to step in to keep the connection going. We’re enhancing the service by adding 45% more seats on the route and flying on a Saturday, not a Sunday. We believe offering customers an earlier start to their holiday will prove more popular. Passengers will be able to enjoy Aurigny’s standard “frills” of a free 20kg of hold luggage allowance and an extra 10kg of cabin baggage. We’ll also be serving complimentary soft drinks, or tea or coffee, both unusual “perks” these days.”
He continues: “We’re confident that this new service for Aurigny will attract repeat customers as well as those who’ve never been to the islands and want to give them a try for a week’s break. The smaller islands of Herm and Sark are easily accessible by boat from Guernsey, both are very different, and make an excellent day trip. Guernsey itself has a wealth of history to explore and a diverse coastline, from flat, sandy west coast beaches to pretty coves that sit beneath its granite, south coast cliffs. The island has always been renowned for its fine restaurants and if you like fresh seafood, you’re in for a treat.”
Richard Pace, General Manager, Norwich International Airport commented: “We are delighted that Aurigny has taken the opportunity to include Norwich within their 2016 operation. Guernsey has been a popular destination from Norwich Airport for many years and this announcement will ensure local holidaymakers can continue to visit this beautiful island from their local airport. We look forward to working with Aurigny and welcoming them to Norwich for the first time next summer.”
Wendy Pedder, the Marketing Manager with Visit Guernsey, says: “The launch of the seasonal Norwich route allows us to continue to attract visitors from East Anglia. We look forward to working together with Aurigny and our tour operator partners.”
