It is mentioned on Prune that Newmarket Holidays are to stop doing weekly flights, from all airports.Has anyone heard if this will include HUY?

The discussion on Newmarket Holidays appeared on the pprune Durham Tees Valley thread on 8th September. At the time, the charter flights from airports such as HUY, MME and NWI were still showing on the Newmarket website. They have since been removed.
The understanding is that the charter flights have become difficult or expensive to source. Yesterday's ASL Airlines charter to Naples seemed much more prompt and satisfactory than some earlier charters. It had to position in from Nantes and later positioned from Naples to Paris CDG. This must all be reflected in the cost.

This raises the question of whether they will operate Lapland trips after this year. They currently have 10 scheduled for December 2017. They do not appear to have had difficulty obtaining Enter Air charters during the winter.

Think it's probably a summer issue for the aircraft charters, there are a lot less charter operators about these days compared to 10 years ago. Wouldn't think they'd have any problem finding aircraft during the winter as loads are parked up.

Lack of charter flight offerings also due to fall in value of the £ - --costing much more to hire in €.
Summer 2018 is shaping up to be very poor indeed. I see there is no Naples at the moment and this has always been a popular route. Does anybody know if all of Omega 2018 is on sale? They used Eastern this year. Is Eastern otherwise engaged next year linking up with Flybe?

That is a very good point.
Fuel and leasing costs will be priced in dollars. Where a European carrier is used, crew and maintenance costs will be in Euros or local currency. The fall in the fuel price will make the European currency content higher as a proportion.
The European content of the costs is probably the reason for the use of Eastern European airlines.
When the pound fell from €1.35 to €1.08 in 2008/2009 there was a considerable reduction in charter traffic at HUY (but there were a variety of causes including local competition and the collapse of Futura).
It is worth bearing in mind that the £/€ rate tends to be cyclical. After €1.08 in 2009, the pound recovered to €1.43 in 2015. It is now at €1.14 having touched €1.08 at the end of August.

Welcome news on the Summer 2018 thread that British Airways CityFlyer still have summer weekend capacity available for charter, particularly if the Eastern Airways E170 fleet is fully engaged on scheduled flights.
Perhaps Humberside Airport Travel, in association with Omega Holidays, could be encouraged to create an enlarged programme of weekly departures to satisfy the demand which has been created by Newmarket Holidays.

Two items from recent Humberside Airport Twitters :-
Venice Cruise and Stay departing 7th June 2018. Six night cruise on Rhapsody of the Seas to Split, Athens and Katakolon plus two nights at the Carlton Hotel on the Grand Canal from £1,489 per person. EDIT This is being offered by Marion Owen Travel, who specialise in tailor-made tours. It presumably uses KLM.
There are only a few seats still available on the second of the Superbreak trips to Iceland on 16th February.

Four "Weekends to Capture" departures have been added to the airport web site. Good to see because summer 2018 offering is very disappointing indeed.

Working with Superbreak seems to be going well, which is good to see
The 'special departure' offering has always had a lot of 'churn' over the past few years. For example Transun had a period of offering nothing, we had Atlantic Holidays to Maderia for a couple of years, Newmarket reduced back a few years ago to build up again then cutback in 2018 on charter flight based holidays

It is interesting to see that the chosen destinations for the 'Weekends to Capture' are the same as in 2017. The dates are as follows :-
Budapest 30th March 2018 3 nights Dubrovnik 4th May 2018 3 nights Venice 25th May 2018 Venice 14th September 2018
lbaspotter has done some useful research on airlines and aircraft types, which is shown on the LBA forum. It shows the travel arrangements for Winter 2017/2018 at LBA.
Santa's Lapland use a Small Planet A320 & A321 Superbreak use an Enter Air B738 Newmarket use an Enter Air B738 Transun use an Enter Air B738
