TUI have loaded their first release of summer 2020! The usual Tuesday PMI for HUY, this time with Eurowings.Nothing showing for winter 2019/2020. Disappointed TUI have shown no interest in expanding offerings after 3? years of solid performance on this route.Proximity of DSA base will be a factor as will availability/ price/ reliability of charter aircraft. HUY management have previously said they are not actively looking to attract a low cost airline so what prospects are left for any significant leisure passenger growth from our local airport?

Disappointing but not a surprise really, and I think the route is more of a risk now sub-chartered and not operated on TUI aircraft. TFS was canned before it started for the Summer a couple of years back, if they couldn't make that stack up year around its not encouraging. If they were not at Donny, I think we would have a much bigger presence from them, but it is how it is.
At the risk of going over old ground...
Lo-co's - The airport, as last I knew, is operating at a small annual profit, which is exactly what it should be doing as a private business. Loco's are only going to come with massive incentives (See Flybe @ DSA) - if your profitable, and given what I have seen at other airports in the past, chances are that a loco is probably going to cost you around as much as it will raise in extra income, is it really worth the risk/hassle?
Where else for growth? Thomas cook seem to have very little presence in our area, and have consolidated what little offer at Donny Jet2 would be great for HUY, but they are much more focused on expanding their brand into the south. As they don't seem to do "W" patterns, and I don't see HUY worthy of a full time based aircraft, even though it has supported such in the past. There are so few main tour operators now compared to 10 years ago, so I think thats all major charter oppertunies covered?

The Health Secretary, Matt. Hancock, said today that British people are unlikely to be able to take foreign holidays this summer because of the Covid-19 virus. He said that social distancing will have to be maintained for some time. 'The conclusion from that is that it is unlikely that big, lavish international holidays are going to be possible this summer'.

TUI Majorca has been removed from the booking engine for Summer 20 - Bookable again from May 21. Not a huge shock, given what I have heard about forward bookings for the rest of this season. Looks like TUI plan to operate from 11th July, from only 4 airports, and gradually ramp up to only around 50% of its normal programme from August. Hopefully forward bookings for 2021 are good.
Balkan still plan to re-start ops on 15th July as things stand.
Jersey also cancelled for this summer
