The initial equipment used by Newair was a Handley Page Jetstream. This timetable indicates that it had been replaced with a Swearingen Metro.

Brymon European operated a J31 from Humberside for a year or so. The company was de-merged a year after its formation. British Airways took over the ex-Brymon operations and the former Birmingham European portion became Maersk UK. Maersk operated with British Airways flight numbers and were active until 2003.

How well did those Bryson routes perform back then?

The routes operated for a complete year and the numbers are as follows :-
Belfast BFS 5,578 load factor 45%.
Glasgow 5,435 load factor 18%
Dublin (a later introduction which only operated for 30 weeks) 877 load factor 41%.
AirUK also had an Aberdeen flight that called in at Edinburgh. The Edinburgh total had risen from 230 in 1991 to 1,741 in 1992.
My wife and I flew on the Dublin service two weeks before it closed. There were 9 passengers on the outbound and 13 on the return. Some disappointed Irish frequent flyers on the outbound said that loads had been much higher before the announcement of the closure. Perhaps the flights on the opposite legs had fewer passengers, dragging down the overall figure.
It would seem that a total of three daily rotations was too ambitious for the Glasgow route. Perhaps a second daily Belfast would have performed better. Likewise a daily or twice daily Dublin, but they only managed Saturday and Sunday afternoons, so perhaps slot shortages prevented a weekday J31 service.
