The prospect of a Turkish Airlines hub route to Istanbul is well outside the scope of expectations following Acun Ilicali's Turkish acquisition of Hull City. Judicious speculative investment will be needed immediately to arrest current on- field performance levels. If this is successful, the medium to long term future could offer the promise of increased demand for air travel. In addition to regular visits from TC-ACN, there may well be an increase in the team's travel budget. Acun Ilicali has already demonstrated a gift for the ability to generate positive publicity and excitement. This may result in Turkish interest in football-related visits to the area and a commercial demand for inbound charter flights.

Outside possibility perhaps, but I think more likely would be reinstatement of outbound tourist flights to Antalya, Dalaman and Bodrum. These have proven to be consistently popular in the past, and the only reason they finished was down to tour operator collapse. Recall a weekly Thomas Cook 767 rotation to Dalaman in more recent years, that demand never left, just presumably watered down when it went elsewhere.
Perhaps if Acun Ilicalis influence is that strong in Turkey and it does brush off as planned, then Pegasus may look to resume service to the region once more as a distant result of that - but it does seem unlikely these days sadly.
With the announcement in the last half an hour that the sale of the club has gone through, I expect the direct benefit to the airport will be the now much more regular use by his jet, and perhaps those of other stakeholders in future if the club can become fully established in the highest tier in seasons to come.

On the outbound Turkey front, it's not totally unrealistic to hope something will happen in the future, regardless of what happens at Hull City. Corendon, Sun Express and to a lesser extent Freebird and Pegasus are making moves into the UK to Turkey outbound market on a scheduled basis. If what they do in Germany is replicated in the UK, then even airports as 'small' as Humberside could potentially be served.

True, and I think there’ll be a push in Turkey to reclaim all the lost tourism trade following covid restrictions. Just wonder whether Humberside Airport are all that bothered about holiday flights any more. I don’t get the impression they’re being particularly active in looking for business in that sector, but of course would be open to it if they were approached by an operator to offer the flights. Could be wrong, perhaps some other forum members know differently?

Pug asks a good question. I agree with his assumption but would love to hear to the contrary.

Humberside Airport have demonstrated that they are not prepared to chase passengers if the required financial agreement would result in losses. A glance at the DSA accounts demonstrates what can happen when passengers are bought-in. Scheduled Turkish flights from one of the Turkish leisure airlines would be very welcome and hopefully they are not too aggressive with their tariff demands. Potential inbound football charters have their advantages. If they materialise, they are likely to be profitable for HUY. They would also have the advantage of boosting the local economy. The new owner has a very powerful media presence. He added 50,000 Instagram followers to Hull City in two minutes. The total now stands at 431,000. This is far more than those who attend matches, but might be used in the future to encourage travel.

The Hull Daily Mail today reports that as well as progressing the plans for the Turkey trip, Acun Ilicali is hoping to bring in a party of television contestants from the Dominican Republic, where he records some of his programmes. The selected contestants would travel on a very long day-return trip by a chartered aircraft from the Dominican Republic to Humberside Airport to arrive in time for the 12.30 kick-off on Saturday 7th May. They would then be invited to watch the Hull City versus Nottingham Forest match before flying home.

Hull City owner Acun Ilicali has posted a video of the aircraft on his Instagram page, with the caption ‘More details soon’. I would imagine there is likely to be a commercial partnership between Hull City and Corendon, and the aircraft will also likely be utilised for the previously mentioned fans trip to Turkey.

Corendon Airlines have today been announced as the Official Travel Partner of Hull City.
As official travel partner, Corendon Airlines will be responsible for meeting the travel requirements of Hull City’s first team during pre-season training camps and also a number of fixtures during the coming seasons.
In addition, Corendon Airlines will transport 500 Hull City fans to Turkey for an all-expenses-paid trip later this year on a specially branded Hull City aircraft.

It has been reported on Hull Live that Hull City have arranged a pre-season friendly against Fenerbahce SK in Istanbul on 10th July, before heading to Marbella for training.
Has anyone heard anything about the planned trip for the 500 fans?

The planned trip for the 500 fans was reported to be to a 5 star hotel in Antalya, which is the opposite end of the country to Istanbul. Recent comment has indicated that the staff at City have so far had more pressing priorities to deal with. Could get delayed until the break for the World Cup in November??
