Thank you for that insight. It means that we cannot easily monitor the route by calculating load factors and will have to restrict ourselves to looking at the raw passenger numbers.

The Sunday frequency is cut to 2xDaily in August (no teatime flight) according to the KLM timetable - a improvement on last year when the cut was in July and August

Due to the North and Easterly winds HUY has been using runway 02 a lot over the last week or so. So larger A/C have been approaching from the South. Also KLM often do a sharp turn to the East on take-off to head for their initial way point (which is usually OTBED) in S. Lincs. In contrast the Eastern A/C heading up to Aberdeen will often stay on a runway heading. So you will see them.

The latest check-in time on all KLM departures has today been brought forward from 30 minutes to 40 minutes before the scheduled departure time. Does this mean that larger loads are expected on the route?

It would be interesting to know to what extent KLM will benefit from the suspension of the SAS Copenhagen route. We re-booked with KLM and have just returned from CPH this afternoon. The CPH/AMS flight had several passengers for HUY (who had to be warned by the cabin crew that they must not dawdle as the CPH flight was running late.) KL1497 had only two rows of business class seats and carried a load of about 75. Incidentally, occasional passengers on KLM will find it worthwhile to join the frequent flyer programme. This is because KLM have started to charge for hold baggage, but it is free for all Flying Blue members.

Now you have to pay for baggage if you are Ivory (the lowest) tier, although you get a 50% off the non-flying blue price. I imagine this will go next year.
However if they do manage to offer Easy Jet style one way pricing, then I think this would eventually be an improvement, but the prices seem a bit high for that at the moment....

That is a point well made, as their changes seem to have resulted from competition from business-oriented low-cost airlines. The generous cabin baggage allowance is not necessarily an advantage when compared with the small bags which were allowed on a Fokker 50. On three of the four sectors we flew last month (on F70 and E190 aircraft), some passengers had to have their cabin baggage stowed in the hold. Because they used an air-bridge at CPH, our cabin bags could not be reclaimed at the aircraft steps, but finished up on the carousel. At AMS, the arrival from CPH also involved an air-bridge, so with a 40 minute connection time, we were pleased to be holding on to our luggage! This subject seems to be a hot-topic in the newspaper travel supplements at the moment. Perhaps it is better to take a suitcase and a small bag. Catering is another feature that has changed over the years. On these flights it consisted of biscuits and water followed by a beer and crisps (repeated in reverse order on the return). There is obviously a limit to what can be served on a 45 minute flight. Buzz used to sell really palatable light meals on their flights and the fully-inclusive hot breakfasts served by AirUK on their F27 services are much missed!

Public confirmation that an extra daily flight is on the cards from next summer. "Extra service to Amsterdam from Humberside could be added as historic KLM Dakota flies into airport By Grimsby Telegraph | Posted: June 28, 2014 FLIGHTS to Amsterdam from Humberside Airport could be increased from three to four each day. The announcement came at a birthday party which had a "princess" as the special guest. Dakota C-47, Princess Amalia, which flew troops in the Second World War and was later used by the Dutch Royal Family, took VIPs and guests on pleasure flights over the Humber Bridge. It is funded by the Royal Dutch airline KLM, which celebrates its 95th birthday later this year. Airport general manager Paul Litten told the Grimsby Telegraph: "The growth of the industry is accelerating. We desperately need that extra frequency. It would be a really important addition." He said passenger numbers had gone up four per cent in the past year, but aircraft movements had increased eight per cent. In the forthcoming year, passenger numbers are anticipated to go up five per cent and increase from 239,000 to 300,000 by 2016. KLM UK and Ireland general manager Warner Rootliep said: "We are hoping we can have a fourth frequency by the summer of 2015 and we are considering that in order to support the growing investment coming into the Humberside region." He said he was delighted to see the Dakota flying into Humberside Airport, which is one of 18 airports with KLM flights. He said: "We are keen to support the region." Corporate guests and regular customers with KLM were given the treat of a flight in the Dakota. It flew over North East Lincolnshire and the Humber Bridge. Mr Litten said: "It was a fantastic experience. To be sitting in the plane which royalty and top politicians had flown in was an amazing experience. "It is more than 80 years old but gave us a fantastic flight. "We were flying at just 1,000ft and had a wonderful view of North East Lincolnshire and the Humber." KLM account manager Jon Shaw, of George Street, Louth, said: "It has been a fabulous day. I have flown in it before but for many of the people here today it is a once-in-a-lifetime experience." KLM is the oldest airline in the world to retain its name. It began in 1919 and its official birthday will be in October. KLM stands for Koninklijke Luchtvaart Maatschappij, which means Royal Dutch Airline." I think we are seeing a few more, maybe once or twice a fortnight, and usually the mid-morning turn. If thats due to large loads or operational reasons is unknown.

Youd think it would be by early next year. I wonder if they have plans for a fleet change once the F70's go. E175 perhaps?

You would hope any announcement would be quite soonish to give enough of a run up - although many customers on these flights are business travellers who will book last minute. If we are going to see some expansion in the KLM offering, which has been hinted at several times by the airport - would we prefer a 4th rotation on the Fokker 70, or the existing 3 departures upgraded to E190? Personally I would like to see the third Saturday rotation re-added to the schedules. The upgrades to E190s do seem to be the mid-morning departures, and seem to happen mostly on Wednesdays
