Was not expecting this
Flybe to Belfast City 4xWeek from 27th May
BE719 arrives from BHD at 1110 Tue/Thu, 1140 Fri and 1330 Sun BE720 to BHD departs at 1135 Tue/Thu, 1105 Fri and 1355 Sun
Being totally honest a Monday rather than Tuesday flight would be better, but nice to see Flybe attempting something. And well done to the airport for securing this route too
(DSA-BHD seems unaffected)

This is wonderful news!
flybe would seem increasingly the way forward for HUY.
I really hope the locals support the Belfast flight, but I have a sneaking feeling, with the DSA service nearby, it will be a challenge. Dublin would have been a better bet IMHO.
Regards
Mike

I'm guessing DSA-BHD must be doing quite well for them to launch HUY-BHD and keep DSA-BHD 6xWeek. Will be interesting to see what affect there is on DSA-BHD
I agree Dublin would be better but I wonder if there was a gap in the schedule for a BHD aircraft, and that was the reason why we have got this service?

This is great news, just hope it works well!
I agree DUB would have been better but perhaps if this works then DUB could be announced in the future?
Im still hoping for Jet2 to scoop up the leisure routes, that would be a real coup for the airport, two low cost operators, plus KLM and Eastern!

Congrats to the airport on the flybe expansion, however I am suprised at the choice of Belfast. I can tell you that this route isn't performing well at Dsa, very rarely do you see it half full. It certainly is outperformed by the Jersey and if I had to place a bet on a route being dropped out of Dsa my money would be on Belfast. Anyway hope it goes well. I wonder if flybe are happy campers up at LBA with ryanair and jet2 there in force? This might be just the start for the airport.

Is this service going to be a summer only route? On one of the industry news sites it suggests that the route will end in October. I would hope thats not the case though.
Its interesting to note that BE are to fly from MAN to EDI too, perhaps they see these routes as potential niche markets? Could be encouraging.
As i say, now all we need is a base from TCX or Jet2 and HUY will be back on the up!

I cant see it being summer only if it is a success. The end of the summer season is an obvious chance to make changes (and drop the route if it doesnt work out) but Ive read nothing to say it's seasonal

I guess they've just looked on the online timetable and taken the dates from there. The official press release from Flybe mentions nothing about being seasonal and I would take more notice of that
As for the local press, the Flybe press release was only released yesterday afternoon so maybe not picked up until today. Also as off the time of writing no press release from the airport which for getting the attention of the local press maybe more important. Belfast City have issued a press release however

The flights were mentioned today on Radio Humberside on the Andy Comfort morning show.

DSA-BHD was subsidised by Yorkshire Forward could another funding Quango be doing the same for the HUY service...."regional connectivity" and all that sort of thing?

Best wishes to Flybe, HUY and BHD and hopefully this new route will stick. The Flybe press release exaggerates slightly in claiming that this is the first ever service between Northern Ireland and Humberside. It is certainly the first from Belfast Harbour, but not from Belfast International. During 1992 and 1993, Brymon/Maersk/British Airways operated a daily service to BFS (reduced to 6 per week in winter) using a J31 which was based at Kirmington. There may have been an even earlier service operated by Casair via Teesside. British Airways offered APEX tickets on the route at £96 return, which was quite reasonable considering that the seat-mile costs must have been quite high on an eighteen seater aircraft. Presumably Flybe relies on very low seat-mile costs on a 78 seater turbo-prop to enable them to attract (hopefully!) many more passengers than previously.

Never knew about that Brymon service. Thought the only time anything BA Regional had anything from HUY was a short period to ABZ in between Air UK and Eastern

Still no press releasefromairport or local papers....
Surely they need to get awareness out there!Could they be holding off for something else?
