Eastern Airways is adjusting its timings from Wick to Aberdeen to offer convenient connections with onward London services and also the airline’s comprehensive Aberdeen network.
From 29 November 2010, the mid-morning flights on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays will now leave Wick 15 minutes earlier at 10.45am, arriving in Aberdeen at 11.20am. On Thursdays and Fridays, services will depart at a later time of 1pm from Wick, landing in Aberdeen at 1.35pm.
At Aberdeen from Monday to Wednesday, evening services will depart 15 minutes earlier at 7.40pm. On Thursdays and Fridays the evening service leaves at a later time from Aberdeen at 8.15pm, arriving in Wick at 8.50pm.
These timings complement Eastern Airways’ daily 7am and 5.45pm departures from Wick to Aberdeen, and return flights at 9.15am and 4.45pm daily.
Roger Hage, Eastern Airways’ ground operations manager, said: “We’ve adjusted a number of timings on the Wick - Aberdeen route during the week to meet demand from those travellers not only wanting to connect with British Airways and bmi’s London services, but also our own comprehensive network of connections. We continue to offer high frequency air services from Wick to support North Highland businesses and those working offshore from Aberdeen.”
John Thurso MP for Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross, said: “These changes will make a significant improvement to onward connections at Aberdeen making Wick an even more attractive airport to use. I welcome them and feel sure they will help to continue the solid growth shown at Wick Airport.”
Jamie Stone MSP for Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross, said: “This is good news. The future economic prosperity of the Far North is greatly dependent on all of us striving to protect and improve transport connections. For this reason the co-operative and thoughtful approach taken by Eastern Airways is to be welcomed. The more passengers accessing further destinations via Wick, the better.”
Trudy Morris, chief executive of Caithness Chamber of Commerce and chair of the Wick Airport Consultative Committee, added: “We warmly welcome Eastern Airways adjusting timings on their flights from Wick to meet connections throughout the rest of the UK. It is extremely important for business that we keep good transport links and connectivity. Wick Airport and the flight connections that the airlines provide are vital assets to this area.”
Eastern Airways has been operating between Wick and Aberdeen since 2001 and the flights connect with the airline’s Aberdeen services to Bergen, Bristol, Durham Tees Valley, East Midlands, Humberside, Leeds Bradford, Liverpool, Newcastle, Norwich, Southampton, Stavanger and Stornoway services.
The UK regional airline was formed 12 years ago and operates more flights from Aberdeen than any other airline.
