Looking for a modern a/c to replace the 146.
Wonder who has won the contract, which renews this Feb?
And will Flightline pull out of ABZ?

Some rumours floating about that it's Flybe, possibly with DHC8 Q400.

PPRUNE Aberdeen forum confirms the press have got hold of it, the Shetland Times has "let the cat out of the bag".
For the contract to be terminated a year early is quite something - must mean some serious problems with Flightline had been identified but, as I posted on PPRUNE, looking from the outside in, they appeared to have done a reliable job since their arrival to replace Brit World.
We'll find out soon enough who does get it.

Heard a rumour at the weekend that Eastern with a Saab had been awarded the contract, don't know how accurate this is though.

Certainly seems to be between Eastern & Flybe. Seems an Eastern Saab 2000 was up in Scatsta yesterday, coincidence???

The interim contract has been awarded to...EASTERN - with Saab 2000s.
Calls for 3 aircraft making up to 4 round trips M-F.

When Flightline took over the contract to fly oil workers up to Shetland, that was also initially on an interim basis, after the demise of BWA (British World). They then picked up the contract on a permanent basis...well permanent until the IAC took it away from them!
I always thought FLT did a good, reliable job on the route, but something behind the scenes went so wrong that the IAC saw fit to take away the contract from them. Lots of rumour as to what that "something" is, but it soesn't seem to involve anything eminating out of ABZ. Very mysterious.
Anyway, being awarded the interim contract may put T3 in "pole" position when the permanent contract goes out to tender. Also may help that T3 are no strangers to oil charters.

Its probably good work for Eastern - no risk, stable revenues and I bet quite profitable too

Quite a debate about whether those Flightline employees that want to join Eastern are doing do under TUPE arrangements, where the new company must honour (at least for a set period of time) their existing terms/conditions.
Seems some think this has been insisted upon by the IAC who control who gets the contract.
However that is just the issue - it is the CONTRACT Eastern are taking over from Flightline, Eastern aren't taking over Flightline THEMSELVES.
So I was under the impression that TUPE regulations applied when one company & its employees are TAKEN OVER by another company (as happened to me this year in fact).

Bad news for all at Flightline - almost as if losing the ABZ contract was the final denoument.
Eastern are operating to Sumburgh I presume until such time as their crews are trained to operate into Scatsta.
What of TUPE regulations now though? Do they still apply?

Eastern to continue to fly to SCS following the retention of Bristow to fly to/from the rigs for IAC out of SCS, for next 5yrs.
