Seems like it's 'just' a charter contract so not much wider significance beyond a use for a Saab on Summer Saturdays

I posted it as it seems like a strange route for them to run. Clearly someone believes there is a market for this type of thing from Oxford (and i dont doubt there is) so good luck to them.

I guess Oxford Airport Travel put a tender out/asked for quotes and Eastern responded. They've done Croatia charters before I think from Norwich
A Baboo Saturday ski flight from Oxford to Geneva only lasted one season last year though, so I don't think success is guarenteed. But with a Saab, rather than a larger Baboo Dash 8 Q400, and a more popular destination in Palma, I think there is a good chance this venture will work if it is markted well in the Oxford area

This certainly looks like a very pleasant way of getting to Majorca and I wish them every success with their marketing. There is no mention of the fare levels so far. This won't be helped by the restriction 'for your comfort' to 40 passengers per flight on a 50 passenger aircraft. The fact that the runway at Kidlington is only 1,200 metres long may be relevant. The weekend availability of an aircraft that can get from Oxford to Palma in 2 hours 40 minutes ought to have implications for HUY in the current climate. Sometimes in a sluggish economy, more upmarket offerings are more successful than bog-standard down-to-a -price basic. Following their success with Flybe and Malaga, should not Humberside Airport Travel be considering Eastern Airways charters for skiing, cruise connections and niche Mediterranean destinations ?

The fares from Oxford to Palma have now been published . A return ticket in June or September costs £395, with the August peak season at £525. These are based on the load being restricted to 40 passengers with a 15kg luggage restriction and no guarantee that excess baggage can be allowed on board. Without the weight restrictions, the fares would have been £316 peaking at £420. This compares with Thomas Cook fares from HUY to PMI of £247 peaking at £297. This suggests that the Eastern Airways offering, with its superior service and abundance of window and aisle seats is potentially very good value.

Further to the above, London Oxford (Kidlington) Airport has been given approval for a considerable increase in the declared take-off distances from its runway. Runway 01 will now be 1,592 metres and runway 19 1,558 metres. Presumably these planned increases were taken into account when the Palma flights were first mooted.
