However they try to put a "spin" on things its a cost cutting exercise. I was half expecting to read of them setting up a second-hand car lot a la Sheffield!

I believe that Peel were of the opinion that lo-co was the answer to all the problems. This came out of the experience they gained with Liverpool, where easyJet found a solid base. We should always remind ourselves that Peel had no aviation related experience until they acquired Liverpool. Since then they bought the lion's share of Teeside, they obtained Sheffield ... to close... and then buy 120 acres of prime development land for £1.oo as well as acquiring Finningley. All of these sites have development land available and Peel are, firstly, property developers.
On their balance sheets I believe they will still be in profit with what they have obtained from the sale of interests in their property developments.
