Local BBC Radio carried a report which included Mike Rutter, in the midst of commenting about their profits, also saying that they were in talks with BAA Aberdeen re an expansion of routes. So expect no announcements for at least 12 months... He did not mention any routes (other than that they were pleased with the performance of the ABZ base, & that they had turned around the LGW route vacated earlier this year by BA) but the BBC report claimed MAN, DUS & CDG.

MAN seems sensible, though they did drop it when they inherited BACON of course. But can CDG sustain a second carrier? And a DUS flight without connections available in Germany? A bmi ERJ-145 with LH codeshare maybe, but trying to fill a daily Dash 8 on local traffic and the odd interline is a different matter

I know, I did expect they would have kept MAN, rather than leave it all to bmi R. Can they recapture market share?
Low cost to AMS or CDG might compete with the existing carriers but the KLM Gp have a pretty tight stanglehold on the AMS/CDG routes - all those lovely full cost oil business class pax...
Germany on scheduled services is an untapped & untried market.
Businesses up here want routes to here, there, everywhere, but have said especially Europe & especially Germany. BUT - it isn't the first time routes have started on the strength of calls from the business community...only for them to be underutilised.

Local paper carries Flybe as the main news story:
* routes for 09 to Germany & south of France (Nice?) * ~100 new jobs * 4-5 more aircraft joining the one based at ABZ presently (to do LGW) * £160m investment in ABZ
All looks good, if it is translated into action.
