I've just spoken with DLE and they say there may be some more news on the route at the end of this month.

I've today been told by Danube Wings that they will be basing an ATR72 at DLE this Spring. Initially they will operate charter flights from there but then plan to open scheduled services "to certain destinations" after a period of time. They say more information will appear on their website shortly.

The Danube Wings website has a new list of destinations though so far without schedules. New destinations are, as already announced, Dole, Gerona, Nice and Bastia, and additionally Angers, Troyes..... and Cambridge. No mention of SEN.

I believe I know the probable reason for that but cannot say any more. Stiill, some you win and some you lose.... I wonder how London/Cambridge will go down with the customers.

I suspect the reason may be something other than competition fears !
The DLE-CBG schedule is now shown on the Danube Wings website. But Cambridge Airport website seems in no hurry to publish the news.

No, it has nothing to do with competition and it's probably best just to put this one down to experience and move on. It's perhaps true to say, however, that DIJ-SEN is a possibility and things might become a bit clearer after French Connect in 10 days time. My meetings diary is pretty full for that event which is a good sign. Fares on DLE-CBG don't seem very attractive at about £250 return, albeit with a 15kg baggage allowance. It will be interesting to see what sort of pax numbers that route generates when it starts this summer.

The Danube Wings DLE service which was originally planned for SEN but changed to Camridge for undisclosed reasons does not appear to be a runaway success.
Their website suggests the operating period is now reduced to July 27 to August 24. All the one-way fares are shown as down to 79 euros.

I don't find that particulary surprising do you?
It's a great pity that their original SEN plans foundered as I think it would have been a different story if they could have offered a real London destination.

Anyone know what the SEN plan foundered on? Landing fee negotiations...?

I don't think it ever got that far, but it wouldn't be constructive to say more.

I see that Cambridge Airport secured 529 passengers in August. I believe there were seven round trips by Danube Wings using their ATR72s, so that works out at a load factor of a shade over 50%. Would they have performed better from SEN...? I wonder how many of the French pax were actually attracted to Cambridge as a destination in its own right?
I suppose the service did at least operate, whilst the OLT Express services may evaporate before our eyes.....
