Danube Wings are planning to commence a Dole (Burgundy) to Southend service, twice weekly with ATR72s Monday & Friday, commencing June 2012 with the service running through until the end of August.
This will form part of a route network that the airline is setting up at Dole.

Nothing on the danube wings or dijon airport website yet. Have you anymore details on what the wider route network will be? Currently Eastern are the only operator serving Dijon
Seems like a good choice of days for weekend breaks, and a cautious start up with just a 3 month operating season in peak season. And it's another airline and service for SEN

The other routes are Dole to Gerona, Bastia and Nice. Seats will be bookable on the airline's website wef 24 January.

Thanks. Obviously going for the leisure passengers then with that network, which should nicely compliment Eastern

Slight brain fade on my part - it's Dole in Burgundy to Southend, not Dijon. Confusion arose due to DIJ having been very active in seeking a LON route.

Dole had a seasonal Air Vallee operation last year (along with Angers). Presume Danube wings is replacing that but with different routes

I had certainly expected it to be DIJ-SEN since they have been very active in seeking a London route and Dole (DLE) is only some 30 miles from DIJ. It's surprising that Danube Wings are stepping in where Air Vallée failed at DLE with their Nice, Munich & Angers(?) routes last year, although all the routes will be different apart from Nice this time. DLE has very limited infrastructure - I visited it in 2010 - with a terminal capable of handling only one flight at a time. It has ILS and a decent runway though and offers free parking. It will be interesting to see how 'French friendly' the airline's website will be as the French are very averse to making bookings on an English-only website and inbound London traffic will form the majority of the pax I would suggest. No doubt SEN will get around to announcing the route at some stage!

I know what you mean but 'un puits' is the one with water in it!
Don't try 'bien fait' either - unless you're suggesting I'm shapely! (the mind boggles).
'Bravo!' is the word.
Tricky language is French.
Sorry about the thread creep Humberside.

Oh well, I mean oh puits...... bravo it is then. I was wise not to attempt to reply on the French website!!
The schedule from Dole should work, if only because of the attraction of the Olympics. Hopefully once it is established and word of mouth spreads through the area it can have longevity. It's certainly a lovely area of France, so hopefully it will attract outbound traffic from SEN too.

It's rather surprising that there has been nothing on the Danubewings website about their DLE routes, especially as the airport stated that seats would go on sale yesterday. Obviously DLE think it's a done deal - their Vice-President Sales emailed me their press release himself - but I hope they haven't jumped the gun rather like GRQ did at the start of 2011 concerning the planned GLM route to SEN.

It seem totally bizarre to me that airports and airlines are incapable of coordinating their route announcements. It probably makes potential pax very nervous that the route will ever start, as was the case with GLM and Jetisfaction.

I agree entirely with Roche's observations.
In the case of GRQ the airport wanted to push GLM's owner into some action and was obviously very frustrated that nothing was happening. Over a year later and little has changed - mind you the economic woes of recent years haven't helped matters.
As far as Jetisfaction is concerned it was a case of a rather over-optimistic owner who, perhaps understandably, wanted to ensure continuity with the then existing Air Berlin service to London by getting seats on sale as soon as possible. Once again his hoped for investment from third parties failed to materialise.
I find DLE's press release the most surprising as I know their VP Sales very well and he is a cautious fellow. I cannot believe that he was not certain Danube Wings were committed when he authorised its release. It might still happen of course but SEN's caution in all three cases looks to have been the correct call in not raising the public's hopes prematurely.
My own policy is never to 'announce' that something is definitely happening unless I have been told directly by at least one of the parties concerned and generally that works well. Like most people, I don't want to look silly when it turns out not to be the case.
