For anyone who is looking for some entertainment on a Friday afternoon, I can offer the news that you can book on Kon Tiki Sky for daily flights ANR-SEN-ANR wef 1 May 2012 at a return fare of 70 Euros. Not quite sure of aircraft type as they say they operate B735, ATP & RJ85 equipment. They don't seem to have an AOC but are using flight numbers beginning ALR. Quite who that is seems equally obscure - someone has mentioned Alfa Air Romania. Originally reported that the flights would originate in Skopje, but it looks to me that they will have a base at ANR serving numerous destinations. Anyone care to place this 'service' on a scale of 1 to 10 for its chances of commencing?

www.kontikisky.com/They are part of an established Serbian tour operator but seem to want to make a big push into scheduled services with not just an Antwerp base but also Skopje, Constanta and Bucharest. Also seems like a bit too much at once

I think anyone considering making a reservation on that website should be extremely cautious at this stage. If this is 'for real' one would expect the ANR website to be full of information, but there's not a mention of it.

I hate to say it but have heard reports that this site has no connnection to to the Kon Tiki Travel company and that the whole thing is a scam BUT if it isn't then excellent news once again! I think we should wait for any formal confirmation of this route from either SEN or ANR.

In which case an email to the airport management at ANR and SEN would be in order. This is not just vague hype of a new route. Money is being solicited for specific services from these airports.

So they've announced a SEN base on a Saturday (what airline makes such announcements at a weekend?), and they've also said their Antwerp base won't be happenning. Talk about 'making it up as you go along'

Just in case anyone is still interested in following this saga, there are continuing changes on the Kontikisky website - two in the last week, even after the abandonment of ANR and the nomination of SEN as the “new base”.
Alfa Air is now described as Kontikisky’s Bucharest-based operator with the aim of becoming a lowcost carrier in the region and into western Europe. The routes have changed again, centred on Bucharest and Skopje. But none are now bookable - they are all “coming soon”. From their description and looking at the proposed number of flights they will need to use 2 RJ85s and 3 ATPs. There is no mention of the 735 shown previously in Kontikisky colours, but I suspect the reason is that it was operated by MAT Airlines, not Alfa Air.
SEN is not shown as a planned route, but features in the dropdown list of destinations, so at least it shows the interest in SEN from further afield. It’s hard to see anything happening with SEN any time soon.
It is tempting to say this is a genuine attempt to set up a LCC in Romania which may have stumbled because of some unfortunate arrangements in the Netherlands that it needed to unravel. Whether this is so, and whether it is viable remains to be seen !

From EX-YU Aviation news. No mention of Southend at all.
Kon Tiki Sky (branded as MAT Airways), led by disgraced Dutch businessmen Harry van Achteren, has found a way to operate flights out of Skopje as Serbian tour operator Kon Tiki Travel confirmed it has sold its stake in MAT Airways to Bays Air from the Netherlands and has no connection to Kon Tiki Sky. Last week, Kon Tiki Sky announced it would launch fourteen new destinations out of Skopje but later noted the mentioned destinations were only a list of cities the airline would wish to fly to since it did not receive a license from the Macedonian Civil Aviation Directorate.
However, it has now found a solution. Kon Tiki will operate under Alfa Air codes, which is an airline based in Romania. It will use its aircraft as well (pictured above). As a result, the MAT Airways Boeing 737-500 won’t be used. Kon Tiki Sky says it will launch low cost flights from Skopje to Basel (5 times per week), Dusseldorf (3X p/w), Stuttgart (2X p/w), Hamburg (2X p/w), Berlin (2X p/w), Malmo (2X p/w) and Istanbul (2X p/w) from April 30. From May 28 the airline will launch services to Ancona (3X p/w), Milan (3X p/w), Bologna (3X p/w), Rome (4X p/w), Trieste (4X p/w) and Bratislava (4X p/w). All flights will operate with two Alfa Air British Aerospace RJ85 jets.

Harry van Achteren.
It seems that Harry has a track record of mis-selling, mis-management and fraud. He has been involved in many previous aviation-related scams which have all come to grief. I wouldn't advise anyone to buy tickets unless you see the plane first.
