Not all been good news over recent times for ABZ, despite the healthy local economy thanks to the current oil boom.
These are some of the route lost that maybe one day will come back:
Stansted London City Cardiff Liverpool Blackpool Oslo Brussels Krisitansand Kristiansund
Were reports of LCY & BRU (with VLM) but nothing has materialised.
Disappointed no-one has yet come in for STN, OSL or CWL.
City Star's demise also left KSU without an operator.
BAA say they continue "to talk to the operators" but with current economic conditions generally & the cost of fuel, many operators are not thinking of expanding right now. Perhaps Aberdeen's location also is a factor. Many may feel it's too far away for the returns they would get & the yield would not be sufficient, v costs.
Also the right size of aircraft which may not count in ABZ's favour. They don't make Jetstreams or Saabs anymore, & they seem to be the types that make many routes out of ABZ work. B737s & 738s are simply too big, eg. LPL with Ryanair - daily on a 738 was too much. There was demand, but just not on a 738!
