London Oxford airport’s drive to run scheduled services is gathering pace with the expected announcement of new services next week.
After bagging Minoan Air, which flies from Oxford to Dublin and Edinburgh from next week, London Oxford is poised to reveal a second set of flights from another carrier, said a source close to the airport.
The new routes – to “domestic or near-Europe destinations" – would open in mid-May and are set to be announced in “the next seven days”, the source told Routes News.
Despite its name, London Oxford (OXF/EGTK - Kidlington) is next to Oxford but 59 miles away from central London. Until now, its facilities have been dedicated to a flying academy and to business and leisure aviation.
But the airport’s campaign to attract scheduled services now appears to be gaining traction.
Minoan Air, which is pioneering scheduled services from Oxford, told Routes News that it is already eyeing Copenhagen and Amsterdam as additional destinations from Oxford.
Other routes targeted by London Oxford include Barcelona, Belfast, Frankfurt, Glasgow, Munich and Paris.
