Listening in yesterday I caught a 'shout' for the Fire Dept. At first I thought it was a training exercise (as it was on runway 26 where they have their training ground). But it soon became clear this was a real one! It seems a light aircraft's gear collapsed on landing. There was no fire and the Fire Crew locked up the undercarriage then towed it off the runway. It was later able to take off again. The only damage to the runway was some 'scratches' - don't know about the AC. Didn't get the type or reg. of the AC. Was anyone there?

Hi Richie. Thanks for the info. Looks an exotic bird! It maybe got confused which way it was going! The nose wheel does look a bit 'flimsy'. Were you there or were you 'alerted'?

"lucky no injuries and he dept ok at 16:20"
- My source says: 'only just'! Apparently he nearly put the wing on the runway as he took off. Maybe still a bit shaken after his landing. Or maybe it's a difficult AC to fly with the tail at the front and the prop at the back.

Not the first problem this AC has had with the nose wheel. From 2004 AAIB accident report: "G-BXDO was flying from Kemble to Shobdon when the inspection hatch for the retractable nose wheel system separated from the upper surface of the nose and passed through the propeller. This caused severe vibrations, resulting in a forced landing before which the pilot turned off all the aircraft systems." The owner has youtube page: www.youtube.com/user/iflybxdo/videosInterestingly there are some videos from the ACs 'nose cam'. Wonder if he had it recording yesterday, and if he'll upload it?
